A/N: First, let me say that I am sorry for not updating any of my stories for months. You may flay me in the private messages.
Moving on.
I am someone who gets lots of random ideas, but almost never fleshes them out into a story. This idea is one I came up with a while back, and so I decided to leave it here to see what could be made of it by anyone dedicated and intelligent enough to make something out of it.
One of my favorite premises for a story, which I almost never see play out well, if at all, is one where fantasy clashes with science fiction. In fan fiction, some of the best examples of this have been in crossover stories involving Mass Effect, one of which is "Monstrum," wherein the world of Witcher is suddenly and violently introduced to the Mass Effect 'verse.
I love stories that have great lore behind them, and Lord of the Rings and Mass Effect both have entire histories behind them to create living worlds. Unfortunately for someone like me, the crossovers between the two stories are both very few and very poor.
While I have read the LOTR books and seen the movies, literally everything I know about Mass Effect comes from stories I've read, and I've never played the games myself, so I could never undertake the effort to make this story myself.
I do have one thing for anyone who wanted to take a stab at it:
The Elves, immortal, wisest and fairest of all creatures, received three Rings of Power. The Dwarves, great miners and craftsmen, got seven. And the Men, who desire power, were given Nine.
The Asari are long-lived, wisest and fairest of the Council races. The Salarians are the best engineers and scientists. The Turians are the military arm of the Citadel.
When the Middle-Earth of the far future ever reaches the stars and meets the Citadel Council, the parallels would be striking to those from that world who remember the tales of the Third Age.
Especially if one of those people heard a tale of mysterious Rings of Power that had been gifted to the highest officials of the Citadel Council centuries ago.
3 to the Asari, who still hold theirs.
7 to the Salarians, who lost theirs to disaster and insane holders.
9 to the Turians, the bearers of which went mad and disappeared.
And lingering rumors of a Master Ring, to rule them all.
Is it a strange coincidence? An unlikely copycat? Or is history repeating?
Let the old tales be remembered and older magic return, else all life be doomed to darkness and death.
It is High Fantasy meeting Space Opera.
To the enterprising and talented fan writer, this is a golden opportunity.
Anyone want to adopt?
