Chapter 1: the death of gohan: monkey boy escapes

Son gohan walks through the serene hill of mount paozu. Waterfalls crash against rocks not to far away as animals roam through the woods living their life to the fullest. Despite the number of trees the sunlight is still quite warm which is a plus for all those who live there. The old man starts eyeing up a small tree with twigs snapped and a nest inside of three birds chirping before shaking his head and walking off. After minutes of searching he finds a nice, thich piece of oak tree which will be perfect for what he wants. With a powerful kick the tree falls to the ground creating a huge thud and causing some birds in the nearby trees to fly off startled from the impact. "This is should be enough firewood for the month. Thank you forest." The old man says placing his hands together and bowing like a crazy person. He picks up the log and lifts it over his head preparing to set off back to his small hut when suddenly a huge explosion goes off behind him.

Gohan hears the noise and wonders what this could be. A new visitor? An attack from the red ribbon army? Animals battling for dominance? Whatever it is it's peaked his interest. He walks on over to it watching the deer and the rabits rush past him im fear. Smoke begins to rise out of the crater freshly created from this object which is starting to interest him more and more. After a moment he begins to see the object. It's a circular object made from some kind of metal the colour of which is white. More of the object becomes visible as there seems to be red tinted glass for the thing inside to see out of. This thing looks to be some sort of spacecraft, the contents of which yet to be seen. As the smoke finally dissipates gohan walks over and peers at the object that caused such a disturbance. A bunch of small noises happen from inside the object as finally the door opens in a swift action.

Gohan prepares for the worst when he hears a noise louder than the crash that caused the disturbance to begin with. Quite confused the old man looks down and sees a little baby boy crying quite loud. His appearance seemed normal except for the strange black, spiky hair he had as babies don't usually have that much hair. Being the kind hearted man he is gohan steps into the tiny crater and carefully but softly picks up the baby lifting him up and causing him to stop screaming bloody murder. Instead the baby boy opens his eyes and looks gohan in the eyes with a blank stare full of innocence. After a couple seconds of looking at each other an object catches the old martial artist's eye. He looks and sees what seems to be a tail? This is quite obscure that someone could have a tail as he leans in for a closer look. Sure enough it's a tail not unlike the ones the monkey's use to swing from tree to tree. "You're an odd baby aren't you. I wonder where your parents are." Gohan says still quite puzzled at this little monkey child's presence. "I can't leave you here that would just be unmoral. I'll take you back to my house until I can find your parents little guy. But what should I call you? How about son goku." This makes the baby frown but gohan still decides to call him that.

Gohan takes the boy home and over the weeks cannot find any sign of human life within the whole of mount paozu. Although he's slightly worried, he never gives up looking as these people must be worried sick losing a magnificent baby. Nevertheless gohan still cares for the boy as if he was his own although the baby seems quite aggressive. It's odd but gohan tries to calm him to little success. One day gohan decides to give his baby a walk give him some fresh air and maybe find his parents (little does he know they died in a planetary explosion.) As they walk gohan hears a noise and sees three beautiful parrots fly over head so mesmerising that a double rainbow can't stand up to these. "Look little goku..." the baby cringed with an evil look hearing this name, "... it's a rainbow partot, so rare to find out here in the mountainside." Gohan looks up at them still walking not watching where he's going when suddenly his foot falls into a small hole left by a mole and causes the old man to trip, releasing the baby from his grasp.

He falls faster and faster down a cravene bigger than the one that spacepod he came in left which worries the old man. It's like a slow motion moment where gohan is useless to help the baby shocked at this. The baby smacks his head against the ground where something happened. His mind is completely washed from all evil thoughts where the baby grew up to be a good friend to earth. This is what's meant to happen at least. Something happens inside gohan; a protective drive to help the boy like a mother pushing a car off of her baby. Without hesitation gohan pushes himself forward and up landing on his hand. With his other hand he catches the boy's tail as his head is just mere inches from the hard ground below. Although his body is limp the child manages to just barely dodge getting what can only be explained as brain damage. Gohan lands on his feet and grabs the baby by the waist with two hands and lifts him to eye level looking him in the eye saying, "that was quite a fall wasn't it little one? I'm sorry I don't know what came over me." Of course the baby is a baby and cannot carry out conversation nor can he understand them.

Gohan continues to raise the little boy up raising him like a son which the boy doesn't take too kindly. It's been 8 years since the child was first stuck with this kind hearted man and he's always a real nuisance just to be spiteful. One day gohan is outside as he throws a log up into the air and then kicks it breaking it in half and causing them to hit the ground with a thud. The old man brushes off a sweat saying to no one in particular, "that should be enough firewood. I'll get food ready in a minute but first I should find goku." At the exact moment he says the word goku, a scream can be heard from above. Gohan turns in a swift motion to see goku leaping from the treetops like a feral beast, a look of rage and hatred covering his face. Gohan raises his arm up and goes to block a punch from the boy which he does fairly easily. Then goku uses his other hand to clutch onto the old man's arm and swing underneath his elbow double kicking his adopted grandfather in the face. Almost instinctively gohan grabs the boys legs and throws him to his left which goku quickly recovers from leaping back at gohan and going to punch him. He throws a barrage of punches at the old master which he easily dodges and then counters with a kick to goku's jaw making him look up to the clear blue sky above. Goku jumps at gohan but he side steps the blow and grabs goku's tail causing him to fall to the ground limp and unable to move.

Gohan yells at the boy "that's enough! You must learn to behave goku." He then releases his grip as the boy stands up turning himself to look at gohan. He then responds by telling the old man, "I'm behaving like I'm supposed to, it's my goal. And stop with this son goku crap, my name is kakarot." Naturally gohan dismisses this as just childish games coming up with goals and giving himself a different name; just gibberish the boy needs to grow out of. Without another word muttered goku walks into the hut huffing and puffing as he slams the door behind him almost breaking it by the impact. Gohan is saddened by how the boy acts he just wants him to be nice but this boy is violent weirdly enough.

Hours pass and gohan cooks a huge fish on the campfire not speaking a word to goku since earlier. As the fish reaches ready to be eaten goku can smell the sizzling food just ready for the taking. He opens the door and goes to grab the entire fish when gohan puts a finger out gesturing for him to wait. With a swift chop gohan cuts off a portion of the tail and then lowers his finger allowing goku to grab the remaining fish and take it inside not muttering a word. Gohan shakes his head simply saying, "what am I going to do with you son goku?" Then a voice from inside the hut yells, "KAKAROT!" As he starts to eat the tail gohan looks up to see the sun setting as the sky becomes as orange as the robes he wears. This is worrying as by his calculations the full moon should be tonight. After quickly devouring the tail, gohan decides to put his hut on full lockdown as he can't risk goku escaping and becoming that thing again.

He steps inside where he sees hoki in the corner having clawed out the whole middle part of the fish. Once he hears the door open goku turns to his grandpa his mouth still fill with food and then turns back not really bothered by his presence kinda like he's fed up. "You know I'm only trying to protect us from the monster in the hillside." Gohan softly tells goku as he hears a giant gulp "I can kill that monster with one hand, it'll be fun." Goku sadisticly chuckles which makes gohan shake his head. "Anyways prepare for a lockup. If I could trust you, I'd let you roam freely but... just go into your room." An upset child grabs the fish carcass with his mouth and walks into a bed in another room tearing apart the last scraps of food off of the skeleton.

Gohan is oddly taken aback from goku's behaviour, he usually complains when he has to go in lockup shouting that there's no mount paozu monster. Pish posh. As gohan starts to clean his house he wonders where his nyoibo stick is, he hasn't seen it in a while. Maybe goku took it that little rascal or of course the monkeys nearby could of took it or the eagles or some scavengers it's really anyone's guess. "Hey goku." Gohan shouts to no answer. "Goku? Gokuuuuu? Kakarot."

"What do you want old man." The hate filled child yells from within his bed sheets. "Have you seen my nyoibo stick?" He asks assuming he'd take it out of spite or just to investigate what it is. "No. But I must show you something." Goku rushes over to grandpa gohan very enthusiastically which is both wonderful but yet quite worrying. "What is it child? Is something wrong?"

"No no it's actually something pretty cool." Goku starts to giggle. Gohan spins his wrist motioning for goku to continue. With an evil grin on his face goku raises a hand up to a wall and a creates a small golden ball in his hand. It takes a couple seconds for gohan to realise what it is but when he does he starts to panic. "Wait no don't shoot it in..." before he can finish his sentence the ki blast is shot at the wall causing it to turn into dust.

Gohan sees the hole in the wall as a dim light shines onto his face from the big mesmerising moon. It doesn't take long for gohan to figure out that this was no accident but a planned attack to see the lunar rays. "Y-you knew?"

"Why of course grandpa gohan! This memory of how to become a big ape runs through his saiyan blood." As gohan hears this he's afraid of the big ape he became last time 2 maybe even 3 years ago. He grabs goku's tail as a sigh of relief grows over his face. He squeezes hard but something happens, goku doesn't fall like he usually does. Instead he starts still his head staring towards the whole in the wall... oh no. His body starts to pulsate as his eyes become pure red like a demom from hell. Goku's body starts to become bigger as his muscles become stronger. His teeth extend into sharp fangs ready to tear apart the flesh of any weak, helpless animal that comes across his path. Gohan has to act now as he leaps out of the hole in the wall trying to run. Fur starts to grow across goku's body as he becomes bigger and bigger and bigger until suddenly the entire hut is destroyed smashed and broken into bits of wooden rubble. Then goku reaches the end of his oozaru transformation to gohan's fear.

A huge roar released from the giant monkey echoes through the land causing all the birds to flee and all the animals to run away afraid of this creature. After a couple seconds goku locates gohan swiping at the trees and breaking them away causing him to be exposed. "What's my name old man?" Goku asks his voice much more deeper and louder to match the oozaru; it'd be kinda odd if this towering beast had the voice of a small child. Instead of answering gohan ops to run away which doesn't please the boy. He spins anti clockwise breaking apart a bunch of trees and hitting gohan sweeping him up and flinging him into a cliff. As he falls goku leaps upwards and punches gohan in the back hard shattering his spine and causing him to be immobile. "Please... goku."

"That's not my name!" Goku yells punching gohan again and causing him to moan in complete agony. Then goku delivers another punch to the man's back before grabbing him off of the ground lifting him up to face him. "Don't die yet old man, I want to watch." Goku's sadism has completely gone off the charts as gohan weakly says, "kamehameha." A blue blast fires from his hand hitting goku in the chest and knocking him back a bit making him fall over and drop gohan to the ground. Quickly goku stands back up angry and opens his mouth firing a huge mouth beam at the old man completely vaporising him.

Far up high in the heavens a mysterious figure watches down to earth helpless to do anything. "Mr popo." The figure says calling over his attendant. He comes over quiet not saying a word awaiting for him to state what he wants. "I fear an evil much worse than piccolo is upon us. Although he is very weak now he'll evolve and eventually end up destroying humanity." Kami tells his friend quite coldly upset that even though he must guard this planet he can't help but be defenceless to protect the planet he truly loves.

The next morning goku awakens back in his small, child humanoid form. As he awakens he sees nothing but black char marks across the ground covered by broken tree. Sizzling fire echoes through the young boys head as he starts to remember what happened the night before. Then after a moment he does. That old nuisance is finally disposed with. A grin grows across the boys face as he walks over to some remanant orange garments left from gohan as he died. Goku ties it around his waist like a caveman as a way to keep his grandfathers name. Son goku is no more, he died the night before, instead only kakarot stands. Long live kakarot!
