Harry Huntington
A/N: Warning- Character Death. I do not own this.
-18th July, 2010 3.13 p.m. (Present)
Draco is holding a sobbing Daphne. It must be the first time she is crying. Draco stared at the coffin in front of him. Harry is inside, Harry, his best friend and Daphne's boyfriend. Surprisingly, Draco has not cried.
Yet.
Draco just feels so numb, although his heart breaks when he sees Daphne crying like this. She has the hardest blow. After all, it was her who gave Harry the poison.
-10th July, 2010 12.44 p.m.
Draco still remembered how Harry broke the news to the both of them. They were all 30 years old.
Harry told them he had Huntington's Disease, and would die in a few years time. Draco was shocked speechless, but Daphne was still strong then. She did not seem that affected and recovered in the matter of a few seconds. She told Harry that she would not abandon him and all three of them would be together until the very end. Harry did not say anything.
Draco finally recovered. "It will be alright."
There was a long silence.
It all made sense then. Why Harry never proposed to Daphne, when they had been dating for so long. Why death did not seem that fearful to Harry. When did he know this?
"Kill me, please." Those unbelievable words were whispered, barely audible.
A shatter followed Harry's sentence, as Daphne dropped her glass of water.
Somehow Draco understood Harry's choice. He was a healer, and knew the Huntington's disease. The patient might not have much control over his brain. Many had chosen to die in order to avoid the later symptoms of the disease, and to die with dignity.
But Daphne did not. Draco betted that Daphne would need some persuading from Harry before she finally agree.
Draco wondered who gave Harry the disease - James or Lily. It should be inherited, but no one would know who had that disease, since the both of them died at the age of 21. The symptoms would only be noticeable after the age of 35.
"Give me some more time." Daphne murmured.
-18th July, 2010 8.07 a.m.
Everything was prepared.
It was a completely random date, chosen by Harry.
Harry was on his bed, and Daphne passed a cup of water to him with shaky hands. It was the only indication that she was upset and nervous, as her face was void of all emotions. Harry drank it calmly, way too calm for a person awaiting his death. He lay down and closed his eyes, all the while smiling peacefully.
Harry must have greeted Death like an old friend.
Draco thought Daphne loved Harry too much, so much that she was able to let him go, to let him be free of all sufferings, yet slowly breaking down herself. To say the truth, it was harder to be the one to live then be the one who leaves.
Perhaps it was selfish of Harry.
-18th July, 2010 3.25 p.m. (Present)
Daphne has stopped crying and fallen asleep by now. She must be so tired. Draco hoped she will get over Harry's death.
It is, simply put, a traumatizing time.
Things happened so fast, that they have not sunk in yet. Not for Draco. However, for Daphne, she knows what it means. To her, she cannot save her loved one and she cannot ever see him, feel him, hear him again. Harry is… … gone.
