Chapter One

The nine year old was a normal child. She played and ran. She went to school and learned. She drew everything that caught her interest. At home, she had a mom and dad. That was where the normalcy ended and the secrets began. She didn't know a whole lot about what was going on. She did know that she couldn't say a word about what her parent's did—really it was just her father.

Her father disappeared at various times. At those times, her mom would turn on the tv to the news station and would keep it on while they continued with their normal routine.

Sometimes she could hear her parents talking quietly to each other.

"I wish you would stop," her mother would say.

"You know I can't do that."

"I just worry that something is going to happen to you. Where would that leave us?"

"I wish I could promise that nothing would ever happen to me. You know as well as I do the risks."

"Then stop. Think about our family."

"It's our family that I am thinking about." He said. "Do you want Lucy growing up in this world? With the government having complete control? They need to be stopped so that people don't live in fear."

"Do you think that they can ever be stopped?"

"I think it's going to take a lot more than what we can do for them to be stopped but at least we are doing something. We are fighting for our freedom. We are fighting for a free UK."

That was usually when the conversation would close and Lucy would scurry away to her bedroom where she would continue sketching. Soon she would hear her dad leave and the tv turn on. It was just a normal evening.
