Supervising detention wasn't something that Hannah relished, but as a prefect, Professor Slughorn had asked Hannah to watch over his charges while he did rounds with Professor Flitwick. She didn't mind, really, but she did feel bad for poor Neville; even though he hadn't received the necessary OWL to continue with potions, Professor Slughorn had made an exception in hopes that Neville would exhibit the same talent his parents had.

Which, unfortunately, had yet to happen.

A loud 'BOOM' echoed throughout the dungeon, and a large puff of pink smoke erupted from the cauldron, obscuring Neville's round face from her view.

"Neville!" Hannah cried, glancing up from her Charms essay and hurrying over to him, "are you alright? What were you trying to brew?"

"Nothing," he muttered, his cheeks tinged pink as he tried to tidy up his work area.

She made a little 'tsk' sound and started to help. "No, really, what were you trying to brew?"

"Mermenta," he muttered inaudibly, his face now bright red.

Hannah gave him a confused look. "What?"

"Amortentia," he said meekly, refusing to meet her eyes.

"Why were you.... oh," she said, her own cheeks tinged pink as comprehension dawned. Merlin, this is awkward, she thought, but it was also sweet. She knew Professor Slughorn wouldn't have asked Neville to brew Amortentia; it was ridiculously difficult to brew and had dangerous side effects when done wrong.

"Neville?"

"Mmm?" he asked, his gaze still fixed on the tips of his toes.

Mustering up all her courage, Hannah stepped forward and pressed her lips to his. After a moment of shock, she felt him relax and lean into the kiss, his hands moving to her waist.

Pulling back, the blonde gave him a bright, cheery smile. "You don't need to brew a love potion to kiss me."
