I suppose you could say we're the same.
You and i… we both have the uniqueness of Mother's cells flowing through our veins, the unique abilities and strengths gifted to us through her power, but that's where the similarities end.
You see, you're weak. Pathetic. You've resisted everything she's given you with every fibre of your being and as a result, you've become what you always thought you were – a failure. The geostigma you hide is proof of that. You know it, I know you do.
That day on the cliffs, I admit I was surprised by your ability to fight both my brothers as well as the WEAPONS; in spite of it all, I could see why Shinra chose you to become a soldier, even though you failed that as well.
The result was exactly as I expected.
As good as you were, you still weren't good enough, after mere minutes I could see you come to that conclusion. I believe that deep down, you knew you couldn't win, that even though you tried, it was futile. You wanted to die, I could see it in your eyes. Maybe fighting is ingrained in your blood, who knows? Maybe it's instinctive, that urge to draw your blade and spill blood, maybe it's all you were taught.
You were inches from death, inches from being taken from this world, and I in my infinite wisdom, spared your life. We both know that I could have destroyed you without hesitation, yet on a mere whim, I spared you.
I may be Sephiroth's pawn, but you and I both know why I let you live.
We're the same, you and I.
