AN: The Princess and the Frog dominates my thoughts and draws out the urge to write.

Prompt 161: Write a mini-story (100-250 words) that begins with: "They had nothing to say to each other."

They had nothing to say to each other.

Naveen swayed from side to side like he was moving to a jazz melody only he could hear, whilst playing with the hem on his shirt. He noticed a small part unraveling, and would have to ask Miss Eudora to fix it for him.

The striking, obviously out-of-place pair sitting across from him on the well-worn couch was still as stone.

Tiana chewed on her bottom lip, fiddling with the diamond ring sitting on her finger, observing. The smell of her famous gumbo wafted into the room, and she mumbled out a quick excuse before scurrying to the kitchen. She rationalized in her mind that, no, she was not abandoning her fiancé to the wolves. Rather, without her there, perhaps some of the tension could be alleviated between the trio.

When she came back in, announcing dinner was ready, not one member of the party had changed position.

As the pair took their first bites of Tiana's famous gumbo, their stoic expressions turned to shock. They took another look at Tiana, who was engrossed in trying to get her fiancé to invoke some of his princely manners and "Slow down while you eat the food! No need to inhale it. Ain't like you're a starving man on the streets of New Orleans!" They took a look at Naveen, smiling so widely at this girl who they hadn't expected at all. A girl without a rich daddy, without diamonds and pearls, but with calluses on her hands and amazing gumbo.

The King and Queen of Maldonia smiled, and tucked back into dinner.

AN: I've always wondered what the first meeting between the Maldonian royals and Tiana, unknown New Orleans girl that is suddenly engaged to their son, would be like. I imagine awkward silences and harsh judgment until Tiana's magic gumbo fixes all. I'm 20 words over the limit for the prompt, though. Oh well.
