Meena stepped onto the train with Harold West. She could not believe how easy it was to escape from the palace with him. Since they had spent a peaceful night in Calcutta and made it safely aboard the train, without any sign of the place guards, she knew she would make it to England and freedom from her caste without a problem.
Harold smiled at the woman who would become his wife once they reached the ship and the last leg of their journey. For now, he was content to be the loving fiancé and he took a great delight in the play of emotion that flitted across Meena's face. She looked like a naughty child who had gotten away with a huge transgression, and in a sense, she had. But she also reminded him of a child on Christmas morning with a huge pile of gifts, when he brought her into the carriage set aside for the English passengers. He was going to enjoy showing her off as his "Indian princess" almost as much as she would enjoy playing that role. But for now they just needed to escape from India without Prince Soma finding out. Then again, Harold reasoned, even if he did, there's nothing he can do about it as she'll soon be my wife…
Meena looked at her beloved and smiled. Yes, this is the right thing to do… Prince Soma will soon forget about me, if that Agni has his way… So stop being silly, Meena, and think about how happy you'll be as Lord West's wife and all the children you'll bear him… She sighed softly, happy and content with how her life was turning out. So what if I'll never see India again… Home is where he is as long as I'm by his side…
