Jacob Black does actually blush.
It's not the same bright pink that rushes across my pale cheeks when his fingers glide softly up and down the back of my neck. It's a much warmer, more sensual color; a deep crimson to compliment the cinnamon hue of his skin.
That dark, sensual tinge had me enthralled the very first time I saw it. I sat straddling his waist, my small hands resting comfortably on his stomach. The little bit of afternoon sunlight peeking through the dirty window of his bedroom cast a warm glow over his skin that I traced with my fingertips. I took my time touching the curve of his jaw, the pillow of his bottom lip, the line of his shoulder and followed the path my fingers made with my eyes. I drank every smooth, muscled inch of him in; I couldn't get enough of looking at him.
"God, Jake. Do you have any concept of how beautiful you are?" I exhaled. I looked up to see laughter gleaming in his dark brown eyes, and I felt his chuckle rumble through his chest and into my hands.
"At least you finally admit you like ogling me, Bells," he laughed, and the sight of his bobbing Adam's apple intrigued me. I leaned over and licked a long, wet path up the length of his neck, briefly feeling the vibration of his laugh on my tongue before it was abruptly cut off. What came out instead was a soft groan that made me shiver and put butterflies in my stomach. I lightly dragged my nails down his sides as I nibbled on his collar bone and felt quite pleased with myself when he let out another, deeper groan. I lifted my head to look at him, to admire the beautiful planes of his face, and I felt myself freeze. Jake must have felt it, too.
"Bells? Are you okay?" I can only imagine how strange I must have looked: head cocked to the side, brow furrowed, eyes narrowed, bottom lip worried between my teeth. I'm sure he must have thought something was wrong, that I was upset, uncomfortable. I, however, was trying to concentrate on what I was seeing.
"Oh my God," I whispered, eyes widening in shock. I could feel Jake shift beneath me as if attempting to sit up, but I pressed my hands to his chest and pushed him back down.
"What is it? Bella? What's wrong? Why are you staring at me?" His slightly panicked words barely registered, my mind focused solely on what I was certain I had seen on his face. His look changed from panicked to confused as I slowly lowered my face down to his. I kept my eyes locked on him as I ran my tongue over his bottom lip before gently pulling it between my teeth. His eyes fluttered shut, and a shot of joy ran through me as I again saw what I had been absolutely sure I would never see on Jacob Black.
"Jake. You're blushing." He blinked once, clearly not understanding my fascination. I let my eyes slowly slide over his face, taking in the deep red tint spreading over his cheeks, and I felt myself grin. "I didn't think that was even possible."
"Of course it's possible, Bells. Geez. You think just because I'm a wolf I can't-"
"Shut up, Jake," I said as I clapped a hand over his mouth, a smirk taking over my face. I lifted myself up and reached beneath me to begin unbuckling the belt to Jacob's jeans. His eyebrows lifted almost to his hairline, but the look on my face stopped him from protesting aloud. I leaned over and kissed his belly button before unfastening his jeans and looking up at his face. "I wanna know what it takes to make your whole body blush."
Jake and I spent the rest of that day testing what it took to make the other's body flush with excitement.
Needless to say, making Jake blush has become my new favorite pastime.
