The Mentalist 5x11 – Days of Wine and Roses
Author's note: I know this is a very shot tag but after seeing the episode I had to make it because I felt like there was something missing after Lisbon asked for Jane's help so here it is hope you like my ending! ;))
"I need your help" Lisbon had said to Jane.
He still focused on her long and harsh features when she looked at the three dead bodies laying on the cold dusty ground. An innocent couple around their thirties and Charles Milk, another of Volker's innocent puppet were looking at her with a lifeless gaze.
From the way up to the crime scene to the car, Lisbon could barely hear the sound of the train riding on the trails echoing in her ears, she was too caught up in her pent-up anger and rage.
When she and Jane finally settled in the car, he knew at this very moment that something was wrong, that Lisbon's mind was far way gone now and that he was only too familiar with the feeling.
"it's not your fault" Jane finally said to Lisbon as she turned the key in the ignition and breaking up the silence for the first time.
"that's funny Judge Davis said the exact same thing when I came to her with Tommy Volker's case" Lisbon said faking another one of her sad smile.
"and she's right" Jane said "but she's also very afraid and Volker did get to her but you my friend are a fighter so I know it'll take more to you to back away" Jane told her convincingly.
"I do am afraid you know" Lisbon admitted.
"Volker terrorize people for a leaving and he's very good at it I would be surprised if your weren't just don't let it get to you, don't let him play with your mind" Jane said.
"oh yeah just like you don't let a certain guy get to you in the past" Lisbon said sarcastically.
Jane knew that Lisbon's unpredictable behavior was not intended and that it was the repercussion of Volker's threats. Even though she didn't dare telling him about it, he could tell by the way she handled herself and also because psychopath's manipulation skills were his cup of tea so to speak. So if she wanted to take him as a martyr he would volunteer gladly after all she'd been through.
"you're not alone in this" Jane finally said "just like I wasn't alone when I first came to you ten years ago" he told her with a small smile.
They stared at each other for a second and Jane could see that he was getting closer to her carapace and had made a little crack in her nutshell.
"what if he's too powerful what if I fail and more people die because of…" Lisbon was about to put the blame on herself but took a long pause before she spoke again "I promised Amanda Shaw I would offer her full witness protection and what happens? he kills her just for the thrill of it" Lisbon said her fist clenching on her stirring wheel.
"and that is why I'm not going to interfere in your personal vendetta against Tommy Volker unless you want me too but if you really do want my help you'll have to do exactly as I say look at me I'm there to help" he said to her as he took her hand in his and squeezed it gently.
And suddenly he saw her flashing huge emerald eyes look at him filled with emotions that didn't need to be told.
"thank you" Lisbon finally said "he's going down then" she finally added.
"yeah Lisbon, that's my girl" Jane finally spoke in an overly cheerful tone.
Jane knew that Lisbon needed this speech that she needed to know that she had a friend she could count on and that she wasn't alone in her chase against Volker just like her knew that she would always have his back whenever it came to Red John. Maybe together they would catch them both someday. Until then there would be plenty of pitfall they would have to overcome.
