She knew when she thought hard that things were missing. Generally she ignored the feeling in favor of blissful ignorance. Yet, there were those days when she would get struck by an empty spot. She would start laughing, or crying and then not be able to say exactly why.

Later, much much later, she would haunt the white halls of the castle. Oblivion, everything seemed to blur and disappear within these walls. She realized the longer she stayed the less sure she became of who she was. She could only reply to her name. She began to feel like an ugly blemish smudging perfection. She was a spec of dirt on a white cloth.

She would stand in the room. She listened carefully to the skritching-skritching of colored pencils on paper. This was not a sanctuary, this was merely an elaborate prison. It was the topmost room in the tallest tower. Yet, she didn't know why those words came to mind. As she let her mind wander she realized she only had more holes to fill.

She would get as close as she could to her. She was the prison guard, and the prisoner was their keeper. She knew them all, in the deepest most intimate way. She knew the insides of their heads, and she wanted that line to blur. She wanted the separation to become a lie and to remember everything again.

Naminé kept them locked away safeguarded far away. Everything she came upon in this castle. Every lost memory she found she kept within herself for the day someone came to retrieve them.

"Ah... but if we put these two together... won't we create a toxic gas?" the smaller blond questioned. She was nervous. Her lab partner was wearing that smile again; that last time she'd seen it they'd both been landed in detention for corroding away half their lab table.

"Shhh... You think too much!"

FOOM

She ducked as the cloud exploded from the beaker. Crawling low to the floor she made her way to the door. She frowned and did her best to ignore the cackling she could hear behind her.

They'd made it out of the classroom and the building in the confusion. They sat together under one of the few trees on campus. The smaller huffed in annoyance. The older was still laughing, imagining the chaos that had undoubtedly ensued.

She opened her eyes only when she noticed that the laughing had stopped. And found herself staring straight into piercing blue eyes. They noses brushed momentarily.

Then with a sudden fervor their lips met and all other thoughts were lost.

She much preferred this chemistry.
