"The Marauders Confront Lupin"

Remus finally tore up the conspicuous piece of parchment he'd received that morning. The letter's words were like his death sentence, and it was time for the execution.

"They know," he thought. "There's no other explanation."

The words tolled once more in his head:

"2 am. Common Room. Be there. We need to talk."

It was 1:45 am. His fellow classmates all seemed to be asleep, but that meant absolutely nothing. His fellow first-years were quite fond of pranks, and Remus had seen many an unsuspecting victim fooled by their pretense. Remus walked out of the dorm and descended the stairs to the gallows. He sank into one of the chairs by the fire that was facing the boys' staircase and sat on the edge of the seat. Would they really attack him? Silently he recited all of the counter-jinxes he had been practicing despite his young age. No one could possibly understand his secret. He had to be ready. Remus checked his watch: 2:05am. Suddenly, he heard footsteps coming down the wrong staircase behind him and a strong female voice.

"Sorry Remus, I was studying for the Transfiguration final."

Remus immediately jumped up to see who had spoken and came face to face with long flowing red hair and bright green eyes. They were of similar heights. Remus couldn't speak.

"My God Remus, you look petrified. What's wrong?"

Remus unstuck his jaw enough to exclaim,

"Lily?!? You sent me that letter?"

Lily whispered in reply,

"I didn't think you'd want anyone to overhear. I just wanted to let you know that when I was looking at my lunar chart the other day… well it kind of coincided… I didn't want to make assumptions but…"

"Yes." Remus interrupted her, suddenly, he had to tell someone. "Yes, I was bitten when I was little. I'm a werewolf. Please don't hate me."

Lily was quick to respond. "No! That's my point. I can't imagine how hard it must be on you. I won't tell anyone. If you ever need to talk about it just send me an owl. I'm here, ok? Even if no one else is."

And without waiting for a response, Lily ran forward and gave Remus a brief hug, then returned to her dormitory before Remus could even think to thank her. Finally, he had made a friend.
