So here it is, my choice for my other fic, as well as the only other one I will be doing. As you can tell this is a Highschool DxD/ Naruto crossover fic but I hope this will be a different kind of fic than has been done before. So get comfortable and get ready to read.
I own neither Naruto nor Highschool DxD.
At the time of writing this, although it had no effect (university life) on my stories, I would just like to give a moment's remembrance to one Monty Oum. I have been a huge fan of Rooster Teeth, and I absolutely love his creation: RWBY. Yes, it isn't the same animation as anime found and created within Japan itself, but his ideas and stories are brilliant, amazing and a whole other load of adjectives positively referring to an artist. Because that was what he was, an artist. I know that some people may be sick of reading things like this, but Monty Oum truly was a genius of fiction, and we could all hope to be as inspiring as him. Thank You.
In the gilded city a woman was staring into a pool of darkness; the black water shimmered and rippled as images rushed through it. Said woman was beautiful, with flowing black and gold hair. Two sides of the same coin. Her face was perfect, except for the milky white of her eyes, revealing she was blind, yet she could still see through the blackness of the pool with such clarity as only she could.
"I see you child, I see who you are, and I see what you will become little lamb."
And so she waved her hand over the blackness, before placing her whole hand gently upon the visage of her chosen figure. A blond child covered in mud and sweat and dirt.
"Go now and change this lost world… for better, or for worse."
Naruto Uzumaki was a lost child, the reason as to why his father's clan lost its prestige, and lost its respect. For who could respect the half-breed child who was unable to inherit one of the 72 Pillars due to their dirty blood. Instead, the seat of the Focalor clan passes to his distant cousin, whose first act in charge was to banish the one who should have been heir.
'Was it my fault he died?' he thought about his father; a sickness of the like the underworld had never seen before took his life, and many believed it was due to the half-breed child of his. 'And mother too?' The mother he never met, who had died herself as she gave him life.
He could feel the weight in his body, the 15 evil pieces that inhabited his space, for half or not, he was still a devil, and still able to use that power to create his peerage, something his cousin was counting on.
'Find your peerage, like I will mine, and we will fight for the right to lead this clan. Worthless as you are or not.'
Now he wasn't the smartest person in the Underworld, but even he knew how tough that could be. But at that moment he didn't care, as all he could do was stumble through this forest with no aim, no objective, and no final goal in sight.
"This is the human world then?" he mumbled to himself. Anything to get his mind off of what had transpired. His father's body wasn't even cold before he was forcibly ejected from the Focalor Clan grounds. Sure, he and his father never really saw each other that much, what with him running a clan, and even then they never really connected.
Minat Focalor was a hard man to please, always judging, and extremely powerful. He was one of the ones who was chosen as a Satan candidate, yet was refused by overwhelming vote due to his relations with a non-devil, Naruto's mother. But even with an influential and powerful father, it still didn't stop his banishment, and his unfolding trek through a dark forest in the human world at only 6 years old.
'At least it isn't raining', he thought to himself, unaware that Murphy's Law was about to take effect as the first raindrop hit a leaf high above him. His arm was hurting too. He had been flying for hours before he got so tired and hungry, bereft of energy that his wings just gave up on him. The first droplet hit his nose, and with that he began to sob.
He simply stopped moving, not caring enough anymore to carry on; his feet refused to move and he refused to move his feet. He just wanted to go home and back to how things were, even if he was unhappy he still knew his place in the world. Even if those eyes of hatred would pierce through his defences and he would cry every night.
"Well isn't someone unhappy?" came a voice out of the shadows surrounding him.
He looked up, blue eyes wild as his drooping devil wings shot out in alarm. "Who's there?" he stuttered out.
"Ah! A deviling? How rare for one so young to be out and about on their own." The voices echoing quality became more and more fixed as a shape emerged from the foliage in front of him, until the full form of a beautiful woman appeared, the rain hitting her softly as a wry grin adorned her face. "Are you lost little devil?"
"Who are you?" Naruto spoke out. This woman showed no hostility, and even though he may not be able to fully control the Power of Air of the Focalor Clan to a great extent, he still had enough raw power to defend himself.
"Do you now?" the woman said with a grin.
'Did she…'
"Read your mind?" she answered wryly. Naruto's face must have revealed his shock because the woman laughed, though not mockingly. "Please deviling, your thoughts are all over the place, it's a wonder that the trees themselves aren't asking for silence."
"Who are you?" his shock was still prevalent, so there was no stutter as one may have thought.
"A simple Witch, whose home you impeded upon."
There was indeed a home lit up beyond the woman, something he missed in his sorrow. It was a simple building, not to fancy, just wooden and, well, homely.
"I am Morrigan little deviling, and would you be so kind as to give this one your name?"
"N-Naruto", he answered.
"A fishcake comes stumbling through my forest. Well isn't this a surprise? And I wondered if my day was going to be boring." She made a noise, as if she was thinking something. "Well I cannot very well leave you here can I? Why don't you come inside? You look as if you haven't eaten in days."
With that she turned around and walked off and into her house. Feeling that an opportunity wouldn't come with this much good luck again any time soon, Naruto followed her in.
He dug in to his soup and bread with gusto, having not eaten in many days beyond the berries that had made him sick, with his dehydration coming from said fruits being washed away with joy as clear, clean water filled his belly.
"So little fishcake, why is a devil such as yourself, and a noble one at that, doing alone in my woods?" Morrigan asked, a natural smug smile on her face with her head leaning on her palm, staring at Naruto as he ate.
He stopped his eating to look up at his host, then his eyes dulled. "Because I'm not like them."
"A half breed then?" she sounded out surprised at this information. She narrowed her gaze before raising both eyebrows, "A Kitsune-Devil hybrid huh? That's… unexpected." It seemed to Naruto as if she wasn't surprised by many things. "So I'm guessing that you have your Evil Pieces set?" This was an impulse that was coming out of nowhere. "How would you like a Queen?"
Naruto didn't think that he could get any more surprised, but boy was he wrong. "What?" he asked stupidly.
"I'm bored. Living here is such a drag. People want to kill me, devils included, not to mention my own mother for another. And to put it simply, spending centuries in the forest with only yourself for company is incredibly boring my little fishcake." She looked him up and down, as if trying to decide something. "Yes. Another opportunity like this will most likely never come along. To be shackled to one such as yourself is no bad thing I suppose. It beats the alternative."
Naruto couldn't help but feel overwhelmed. An obvious reaction to such information overload into a child's brain. Morrigan beckoned him to finish eating so he did, more slowly that before as his mind attempted to process the information he had just been given.
It was later, after he had finished, after he had bathed (Morrigan must have allowed it due to his age, but the two of them bathed together) and after Morrigan had laid him down upon a comfortable bed did he shoot up to a surprisingly startled host. Said host just smiled differently this time. She knew immediately that he was to free her from her wooden prison, and she was doing all in her power to keep her serious personality the dominant one.
"How old are you little fishcake?"
Naruto, still dumbstruck over how lucky he was becoming didn't hear her at first, and it took another gentle question for him to listen to what she was saying. "What?"
Morrigan rolled her eyes, "How old are you?"
"Ah. I'm 8 years old miss."
"It's Morrigan not miss," she interrupted. She wasn't one for all that pomp and whatnot. She preferred it if others were polite to her, but if this one was to be her King then he should act like one. 'There is no way in all the realms that Mother would be able to get to me if an entire faction is behind me. Even if he is a half-breed outcast, he is still a Devil, and they protect their own.'
Naruto absentmindedly pulled out his queen piece from his personal pocket dimension and started feeling it with his fingers. It must have felt Morrigan's intent as it began to glow slightly, before altering to a red colour, snapping him out of his daze. "It mutated?" he asked himself.
Morrigan smiled a true smile, she was about to get out of her forced exile, 'Oh, to see the world as it is now…'
"I'm ready my little King," Morrigan said gently; Naruto was a mentally scarred child after all.
Naruto stood, while Morrigan sat down, looking up at him with reserved expectedness. "B-By the right as head of the Peerage of Naruto Focalor, I order you, Morrigan, to cast off your previous bonds, and become my Queen."
The bedroom filled with purple light, and Morrigan's body began to contort, although not painfully, as the reincarnation began to take effect. After what must have been a minute, Morrigan was smirking gleefully as she began to examine her wings carefully. "So this is what being a devil is like then?" Her power flared slightly as she tested her new body out. "And this power… It has made my own grow so much," she whispered reverently.
She looked almost coyly at her new King, "So what now my King?"
Naruto just stared, it was all starting to come together for him. There was a human phrase that struck him at that moment, one that seemed apt for the situation. The Devil's Luck. And he had it in spades.
It was all becoming a bit much for him though. It was as though a train had rammed through him; everything hit him all at once and he could not stop the first, second or third tears from falling. However, before when he cried, there was no one to catch him as he fell. Now, he had his Queen, who gently laid him down upon the bed, getting in next to him as she pulled the covers over them.
It was there they lay until morning.
When dawn broke, it was the sunlight that awoke the duo; the streams of light poured in, interrupting the sleep the master and servant had, with Morrigan being the more vocal of the two. However, she kept her true thoughts inside for the moment. 'That was the best sleep I can ever remember having,' she thought internally. Outside her mind, she spoke to her new King. "Did you enjoy your sleep my little King?"
It was good that he was cute, she mused, as well as the fact that she felt drawn to him for some reason, and due to his small age, that she did not mind how they had ended up in the night. Morrigan had, in the middle of the night, obviously desired warmth from her companion, or maybe something else, and had managed to drag his body on top of hers, so that he was half on, and half off, with his head upon her breasts as pillows. 'He is still only young. And he has had no maternal care.'
Naruto was unaware that his Queen had sussed why he had ended up in this position, but he didn't care. He had never slept so good in his short life before, and was wondering if he could sleep with Morrigan again. "If that is my King's wish." Her voice was soft. A change had come through her as compared to the night before. He had also forgotten about her talent for apparent mind reading.
They lay like that together for a long while after. Morrigan had become so starved of company, and Naruto had this aura around him, that she could not help but enjoy the strong warmth that came from her new King. While Naruto was in the same boat, yet any loving feeling like this was far and between. He had some good memories, but they were in a blur, and he couldn't quite grasp the faces of the people who made him feel wanted.
Eventually they had to move; Morrigan's opinion on her master and new situation had doubled or tripled in the positive. Her mind was beginning to slowly catch up with her heart and yet she didn't find it in her to care to listen to her doubts.
She made a quick breakfast for the two of them, before asking a question that she didn't want to appear too eager. "So, my little King, where is it we are intending to go?" She wanted to get back out into the world and see how much it had changed.
"Well, I need to complete my peerage," he responded quietly.
Morrigan raised an eyebrow. The only thing she knew about peerages are what her familiars have reported back to her, and even then the information was lacking.
"I sense a story here," she muttered quietly, although not so quiet as to not be heard.
"I was given my pieces early, an order by my father." He started strong but began to falter as the memories rushed in. "When he died my cousin took over the clan, and because I was impure he had me thrown out." Tears began to well up, and he saw a sympathetic look upon his new Queen's face as she gently wiped away his tears with her thumb. Calming down slightly, he continued with his tale.
"I wasn't well loved to begin with; the servants would play with me sometimes. The kitchen staff were my friends, but everyone else, the other Focalor's, and their vassals would look down at me. They would hit me sometimes and every time I told my father he would just ignore me, tell me I was wrong or something."
Morrigan looked contemplative at the story, 'A harsh life so far he has lived.'
"My father got ill, and then he was gone, and the new clan head kicked me out, and now I am here."
"I see," Morrigan knew that there was more to the story. She could read surface thoughts, or majorly projected emotional images that she translated into words, but she couldn't read minds. He was keeping the true tale close to his chest. "I know that there is more to this than what you have told me. But you are my King now, so I should follow your lead; I will be here for when you wish to talk."
Looking at the sincerity on Morrigan's face, Naruto felt something he never had before.
Hope.
And chapter end.
So yeah, this is my story that is replacing the one I took down. I hope you like the young champion of hell emerges, and I hope it will be on par, if not better than the maelstrom's flock.
And by the way, I didn't spell Minato's name wrong, I just went away from Japanese. The devils are of a Western idea, created from the book of Solomon, quite a distance from the Japanese culture, so I westernised his name a little.
And yes, that is Morrigan from the Dragon Age series. Naruto's peerage will consist of a variety of characters from different games and manga, so I think a little game is in order. You know that Morrigan is his queen but if you can guess who the rest are from the following clues then I will award a shout out on the chapter that they are revealed.
They are: an ice queen, a visionary, a baker's lover, a white wolf (this one is easy so I'm expecting a lot of right answers), (this one will be tricky) a dragon giant, a thrill seeker, a false king, a most badass Christian, and a one-eyed marionette. However, this will not be a harem story, but one of the characters in his peerage will be the pairing, and even if you guess correctly… well bully for you.
Good Night, and Good Luck.
