Red, white, and blue. Colors of America, colors of a free country… Colors he hated and loved.
The flag waved lazily in the wind, and Alfred couldn't stop staring at it. The old, battered flag made a sharp snap sound as the wind picked up, startling Alfred out of his stupor.
Snap, snap, snap.
For a split second, America considered tearing down the flag- watch it burn, burn, burn- but dismissed the thought soon after. He was smarter than that, knew better than that. He was patriotic, dammit! Hell, he was the whole damn country.
Snap, snap, snap.
America wondered at the colors. Alfred wondered why those colors.
"White for the purity, blue for the sky and sea, and red for the blood split between you and me."
White for the clouds, fluffy and there. White for the pupils, bright and clear.
Blue for the sky, far and wide. Blue for the sea, high and low tide.
Red for blood, stark and afraid. Blood for the people to rest they laid.
Red, white, and blue- prices to pay for freedom. But, Oh! How sweet freedom be, burning a path of hope through his body. Unalienable. Those where is rights.
Snap, snap, snap.
Thirteen stripes and fifty stars. Thirteen original colonies, never forgotten but build upon. Fifty states united under one nation.
He was that nation. And that was his pride. And that was shame.
And he wouldn't give it up for the world because who wanted such a boring place, anyway?
He had a whole nation to care for, and that's all he needed.
"White for the purity, blue for the sky and sea, and red for the blood split between you and me."
Authoress notes: America drabblefic. I came up with it in the shower while thinking of what I could write about. The last line isn't entirely mine- it's main content is from another America fic, an EnglandxAmerica CanadaxAmerica fic where Alfred gets pregnant with the states. I can't remember the title, but I remember the summary.
"America has complications while giving birth." Or something equal to that. I think it's from that, anyway. At least the white equals purity and red equals blood part. The rhyming is all me, though. If I'm wrong, feel free to correct me.
I do not own Hetalia- Axis Powers.
