To Be Unclaimed
[written for the 10 Sentence challenge on Veritaville]

Despite the crowd and company, the Hermes cabin could be a rather lonely place.
It was a place where only thirty percent belonged.
The rest remained without an identity of their own; their past, present, and future a constant 'what if?'
They would lie awake in bed, on many a sleepless night, contemplating the reasons the gods may have to refuse to lay claim on their demigod children.
Surely the gods didn't care so little for their children, the ones who grew to protect Olympus, that they would make them suffer the humiliation of remaining unclaimed?
They often wondered whether the gods had forgotten they existed.
Or had they merely been mistakes?
Many grew to resent the gods, bitter at being abandoned.
Some grew not to care.
And not one of them could tell you how it truly felt to remain unclaimed.
