Prologue: Silence

"Silence is the true friend that never betrays."

This is the teaching of Confucius, taught to myself and my brother from a young age. I've always gone by this principle. Ever since birth, I have gained authority through silence. As a Lin Kuei, I've trained myself to follow the clan's aphorism: to be stealthy as the night, and deadly as the dawn. Trust, victory, and power, all acquired through the practice of stealth and secrecy.

It is because of this secrecy that not many know of my past. When most people think of me, they think of a bitter, enigmatic, heartless assassin.

Looking back, I agree with them entirely, except for one small mistake.

I, like all other humans, have a heart. Not many others know that, however. I've been through death, destruction, fear, devastation, trickery, and many other things in between. My story is a tale of killing, horror, and sorrow. Being caught in a web of lies, and the sacrifices which accompany it.

I've come to befriend a few others, yet of course, as silence is my closest friend, none know the full details of my plight. Just this once, I will speak the words which have been left unspoken, shed light upon the inconsistencies of my story, and illuminate my once darkened and turbulent tale.

I will express how I came to be Tundra, then Sub-Zero, then Grandmaster of the Lin Kuei... how I came to be who I am today.

I am Kuai Liang, stealthy as the night, and deadly as the dawn. This is my story... my legend.

Author's Note: I'd like to recognize XiahouDun84, because the concept of this story was somewhat inspired by the story, Kitana: Redemption. But of course, with an entirely different protagonist and plot. X) Anyways, I hope you all enjoy this story, and as always, constructive reviews are highly appreciated. Thank you.
