A Tale from the Castaways of the Flying Dutchman
1865- Somewhere in the Midwest.
Two forms were silhouetted against the starlight. One was a boy who looked about fourteen years old, blond with blue eyes, the other, a Labrador with sleek black hair. Both watched as the stars made they're way across the heavens.
The boy wrapped his arms around his knees and tilted his head sideways towards the dog. "So Ned my good old shipmate what do you think they are?"
The dog grunted and glanced at the youth. "Really Ben, it would help if you gave a topic to these conversations."
"We've known each other for almost two hundred and sixty years. I would have expected that we had passed needing a subject."
Ned seemed slightly surprised. "Has it really been that long?"
Ben nodded. They were silent for a moment, both enjoying the peace when Ben broke it. "In case you were still wondering, I was talking about stars."
Ned inclined his head. "I know, I read your thoughts. I was thinking of an answer."
"So what did you come up with?"
Ned lay down and started licking his paws. "I think they're Angels."
Ben also lay down, but propped himself on his elbows so he could face his dog. He raised an eyebrow. "Really, which one is ours?"
Ned pointed upwards at the dark sky with his nose. "That one."
Ben looked up only to see thousands of stars. "Very funny." He said and Ned flashed him a doggish grin.
"Your turn." inquired Ned while wagging his tail.
Ben closed his eyes. "I think they're people's souls."
Ned stared at him. "What makes you say that?"
Ben shrugged, eyes still closed. "That's just what I think."
"So which ones are our souls?" asked Ned.
Ben lifted his arm pointing to a line of stars. "The Belt."
Ned craned his neck, looking. "But Ben, there are three stars there. Who's the other one?"
Ben remained silent, not answering his friend.
"Oh." Said Ned softly and shut his eyes. "Good night then."
Serifena was the third star in case you didn't get that. Don't forget to Review!
