Ch. 1::Bridge
"Look, Bridge we've been having some financial problems since your father was in that accident at the factory," Bridget's mom had a sullen look on her face as she glanced over at her husband, then back at Bridge. "So, I think you'll have to get a job somewhere."
"Like what? I can't do anything except walk and talk."
"Well….You can be a newsie."
"They don't let girls do that! That's a boy's job."
"Well, you can just cut your hair and dress in boy's clothes. They won't notice." She gestured to Bridget's flat chest, and then added, "When they do grow, just wear baggier shirts. Nobody will notice. Here," She handed Bridget a dollar. "Go get some clothes. That dollar should cover one outfit until you can earn money to buy more."
Bridget took the dollar and looked around. Ugh…I don't think there's any way to get out of this one… "Okay. I'll be back in about an hour."
Bridget left their apartment and went down the street to the clothes store. She picked out a crimson short sleeved shirt with black jeans and black suspenders. One dollar, even. Perfect.
When she got home, both her parents were in bed. Whoops…I might be in trouble tomorrow… Shrugging it off, she went up to her bed and soon after, fell asleep.
AUTHOR'S NOTE:: Yeah, I know it's a bit short, but I'm submitting the first two chapters tonight, so deal with it. Hahh.
