The year was 1999. The first Smash Bros tournament had recently been held in the Nintendo world and was a huge success. People from all across the world had traveled to the modern city of Mute City to witness the event with their own eyes and fell in love. Soon, news began to spread that these "Smashers" were the best fighters known to existence and this made even more people come watch them fight. Once the tournament was over, they wanted more. They wanted to see more Smash Bros and most of all, they wanted to see more fighting.
Soon, word has reached the Capcom world about Nintendo's big tournament. They also heard that people were crowning the Smash Bros as the greatest fighters in the world; a title that they had firmly held for the past decade. And they weren't going to let one little tournament with only 12 fighters outshine the monopoly that had become the Capcoml fighting team.
Capcom sent a letter to Nintendo, asking them to prove to the world who the better fighters were by helping Capcom create the greatest cross fighting tournament the world has ever seen. It would be named, Nintendo vs. Capcom! Most fighters asked to join the tournament gladly accept; entering to represent their world while some have ulterior motives…

Alright so, I know there isn't much to this chapter, but I had to introduce all the characters this way because introducing them individually would become quite tedious. And yes, THERE IS a plot to this story; not just random fights (which there is!) and it also will help explain how melee came into effect. So, read and review!
