I

Narcissa shouldn't love her. It's wrong on so very many

levels. But the heart wants what the heart wants,

and her heart longs for auburn hair and

green eyes. But Lily's blood is not

pure. And, when you're a Black,

that's the biggest sin, the

worst crime imaginable. In

that case, Narcissa

is a

criminal.

II

Lily has always played it safe because it's easier to

hide behind books, living through words on the pages,

never having to truly live. But she wants

adventure, something beyond paper and ink. Narcissa

is dangerous and wrong. But Lily

will risk it so one

day she can say

she took a

chance on

life.

III

Shadows are security. Abandoned classrooms are safe havens. Only there,

hidden away from prying eyes and whispered judgements are

the Slytherin and Gryffindor safe to be in

love. The others wouldn't understand them, and

that hatred and House rivalry can

sometimes melt away and grow

slowly into love. All

it takes are

two willing

hearts.

IV

They carry on like this, pretending that they are infinite,

that they can last forever. Love is enough, except

when it isn't. So they cling to each

other and pretend they aren't drifting away.

But Narcissa has family obligations, and

Lily wants to be able

to love freely, out

in the open.

They are

ending.

V

It's for the best, they decide. Even if it hurts,

they know they must part. Narcissa isn't as bold

as Andromeda. She could never publicize how far

she has strayed from her parents' dreams

for their youngest daughter. She kisses

Lily one last time, wishing

things could be different.

"I'll always love

you, Lily.

Goodbye."
