Community: Alone Together

The rest of the study group had left while Jeff Winger and Britta Perry remained behind. It was the day after the paintball fiasco as well as… well, a very different kind of fiasco. If one could call it that.

"Something's changed," Abed had announced only a few hours earlier, his palms resting on the polished wood of the study table. At that moment, Jeff and Britta had exchanged awkward glances, both shifting uncomfortably in their seats.

"Must be the air conditioning," Pierce had commented. "It smells like my mother's old sweat socks in here."

Jeff had quickly changed the subject before anyone else could begin to speculate anything else. The hours passed as they usually did and the group disbanded, though Jeff and Britta stayed behind telling their friends they'd see them later.

Now, here they were. Alone together.

"You know, I really thought Abed was gonna catch on and bust us," Jeff said, settling himself down in the seat next to Britta.

"So did I," Britta replied. She paused for a moment and then, "You really think he knows more than he's letting on?"

"Britta, this is Abed we're talking about. Of course he does. Maybe this was our 'get-out-of-jail' free card."

The beautiful blonde haired girl next to him considered this. "Hmm. Thanks, Abed. I think."

Jeff decided to change the course of their conversation. "Britta, I stayed behind because I wanted to talk about last night."

"I thought we already talked about it? The paintball game caused our emotions to escalate and my hormones to act like I had PMS."

Jeff stared at her. "Did you?"

An annoyed look crossed over Britta's face as she stared back at him incredulously, saying nothing.

"Sorry," Jeff said quickly. "I didn't mean to--…"

"Don't worry about it," Britta told him. "But if you are gonna stay, then maybe we should get some studying done."

"Right," Jeff agreed.

But, in this close proximity, Jeff couldn't help but get distracted by Britta. The way her blonde curls framed the perfect shape of her face. The way her eyes sparkled every time she became annoyed with him. So, as Britta flipped through their Spanish textbook, it seemed only natural for Jeff to reach out and brush some of her blonde curls behind her ear.

"What are you--…"

Despite being annoyed by the touch of Jeff's fingers in her hair, she froze. Then she turned and realized how close the two of them were. He was now leaning over, closer to her, his lips only inches from hers.

The kiss did not come quickly nor did it end quickly. Time seemed to slow down and their lips met in slow motion, colliding together and staying there for a few precious moments.

Hours later, with another kiss behind them (but nothing else), Britta lay across Jeff, having fallen asleep together in the literal sense. They woke up in the early hours of the morning, finding themselves awkwardly in each other's arms and springing apart in an instant, catching themselves in the act.

"I… think I should probably go get washed up," Britta said awkwardly.

"Fantastic idea," Jeff replied, equally as awkward, yet his awkwardness was disguised by his sudden desire to act macho.

Britta darted out of the study room as Jeff just watched her leave.

The night before had been the second night they were alone together. Despite the act he'd learned to put up around Britta's guarded personality, he secretly hoped that this would be the start of something more. And that someday soon they could be with each other again.

Alone together.

Fin.

Author's Note: This is my first Community fic and I LOVE Jeff/Britta, so I had to write some kind of story about them! I mostly write dramatic fanfiction and scripts, so comedy writing is new to me, but I'm also working on two Community spec scripts right now. Anyway, hope you enjoyed and please review!
