Sixteen! Honestly, I had a lot of fun writing this one. And the next one (which you'll see tomorrow ;])
Kai was not having a good day. And if anyone even came close to him-!
He wasn't sure what he was gonna do, but it'd be something bad! Well, as bad as something only a Green Ninja could do.
Earlier, he broke his silence when he talked to Lloyd. He was stuck on a platform that was floating in the magma. He was inside a volcano with the other ninja. Lloyd was debating whether or not to get the Fang Blade but chose to get Kai instead. Kai looked up at Lloyd as the older boy held him against his chest when the magma flared up. He was shaking. Lloyd was protecting him.
"L-Lloyd," he whispered, his voice cracking from disuse.
"You're gonna be alright," Lloyd said in false bravado.
"Lloyd, I'm scared."
Those three words triggered something in Lloyd and suddenly, they were surrounded by an orange dome and carried out of the volcano.
He then went on to explain that his job wasn't to become the Green Ninja but to protect him. The others put their weapons up and watched as they floated around Kai. Nya had rushed up and hugged her baby brother tight. Words were said until Jay ruined it by asking about the Fang Blade.
But that was a month ago.
During that month, Nya began nagging him about responsibilities (the word alone made him gag). She kept telling him about how the Green Ninja had to be a leader and lead the other ninja. She told him how he had to get his powers under control. His response? He lashed out at her and ran far, far away.
Currently, he was somewhere where only one person could find him.
"Kai! There you are! We've all been looking for you!" Lloyd said behind him.
Kai said nothing.
"You wanna go back?"
Kai shook his head.
"I get it. But, why did you choose to run here?"
Kai shrugged nonchalantly.
"You knew I'd find you, didn't you?"
A nod. Lloyd hummed in response and came around to face Kai.
"Mind if I sit here?" he asked.
Kai waved a hand and Lloyd sat to his right.
"Ya know, I think I know why you chose to hide here."
Kai raised an eyebrow.
"You chose this place because it was the first place I met you. It was also where dad chose you to be one of us. You knew I'd come here without the others. You only wanted me to be here. But, the only thing that irks me is why. Why did you want only me to find you?"
Kai sighed knowing he would have to talk eventually.
"Because I knew you wouldn't drag me back so quickly," he said softly.
"The others wouldn't have either if you'd asked. Well, except for Nya," Lloyd said at Kai's look.
"Yeah."
"I've noticed you're talking."
"Only in front of you."
"Really? Not even your own sister?"
"No."
"Why?"
"Because I know I can trust you. You're my brother in all but blood. I feel safe around you. I know you won't hurt me. Even if I hurt you."
"But you won't hurt me either, Kai!"
"Not intentionally."
"I know."
Kai let out a shaky breath and felt Lloyd snake an arm around his thin torso. He buried his face into his chest.
"You don't have to go back tonight, you know," Lloyd said softly.
"No?" Kai asked.
"If you don't want to."
Kai turned his face up to look at the older blond boy.
"Will you stay here? With me?" Kai pleaded (he cringed internally because he never pleaded with anyone).
"Yeah. I'll stay," Lloyd whispered into Kai's brown locks.
True to his word, he stayed with the younger brunette the whole night. And if Nya asked where they were, Lloyd only replied it took more time than he thought to find Kai, to which Kai was grateful for. Plus, what were brothers for?
Oof, the feels!
