ATTENTION! READ ME! Alright, my OC, Kaito is his name is interested in the same gender. However, it won't be a long while for romance. Romance will be on hold for a while. In the meantime, we are going to explore with Kaito's adventures and discover his growth. Also, his love interest in NOT someone in Straw-Hat crew. They will be his family, his nakama, and his friends. His love interest is someone outside of the Straw-Hat crew, someone we're quite familiar with. I won't say it, because that would ruin the surprise. *grin* So, romance won't come until... *thinking*...damn... a long time. *grumble*... oh well, I can wait, it WILL be worth it! *fist pump*

Warning: unbeta. English is my second language. ASL is my first. I'm Deaf. Future shounen ai will be in this story. xD

I don't own One Piece. I do own OC, Kaito.

Enjoy~ :)

Island: Tropic Haven

"What the hell do you think you're doing, Kaito?!" a sixteen years old teenage boy with bright red hair with nose-length bangs, a single braid that reached down to his collarbone on the right side of his hair with a silver unique bead attached, sharp brunt orange eyes, sun-kissed tan, and he wears a white shirt with colorful old and new paints, dark blue jeans with few colorful dried paints, and dark brown boots. He also has dark brown fingerless gloves, goggles hanging around his neck, a silver ear cuff on his right ear, dark blue kanji tattoo on his left side of the neck that said, "free", and white cap with old dried paints randomly patterns.

Kaito clicked his tongue as he paused spraying his pain can. "Shit… I'm not even done." He grumbled, he got caught by the mayor once again. He turned his head over his shoulder and grinned innocently at the old mayor. "Sup, old man! How's it going? How's your lovely wife?"

The mayor glared at the boy with irritated. "I'll ask again, what the hell do you think you're doing?!"

"Hmm… I'm repainting our sign for the good of our wonderful town." Kaito replied, innocent. Which the old mayor doesn't believe the troublemaker brat one bit as he snorted.

"Re-painting… more like you're making graffiti on the signs, again!" the mayor snapped.

Kaito sighed. "It would look fantastic if I could just finish with one last touch."

"No! No more painting, Kaito! You've already got arrested for illegal painting on the Marine Base! Do you need to add this crime on your record?!"

The painter snorted loudly as he crossed his arms. "Okay, in my defense, have you seen the Marine Base? It's so unoriginal and out of style! I mean, what kind of logical people would want that kind of patterns and colors as part of their lifestyle?! It's terrifying and ugly! It needs to be colorful and right patterns that suit the marine styles!" he defended himself.

The old mayor groaned. "Kaito, why can't you just leave the spray can and paints alone and focus on sculpture or crafts?" he begged the troublemaker brat.

"Aww, come on, old man! I've been doing those for weeks, I needed to keep my skill fresh and strong if I wanted to become the world's greatest artist!" Kaito said with a grinned.

"As if your skill will disappear. You practically born with a paintbrush!" the mayor grumbled and Kaito laughed happily. Then the mayor noticed the troublemaker brat finished the sign without him noticed. 'How the hell did he finish that without me noticing?!' the old mayor twitched with disbelieved, annoyed, and resigned. "Get down here, brat!" Kaito jumped down from the crates boxes that were stacked up close to the sign.

When Kaito stood in front of the old mayor, he stood tall proudly of his 5'4'' height. Which causes a lot of confuses for many people who assumed he's a little kid when he's obviously not. "World's greatest artist… how you're gonna do that?" the mayor asked with curious.

"Simple." Kaito smirked. "By traveling the world, and yes, that includes the Grand Line!"

The old mayor snorted once again. "Good luck with that, brat."

The sixteen years old teenage hummed. "Didn't you know, old man? Lady Luck has been on my side for a while. I believe I will get to start my journey very soon."

And he has no idea how right he was.

Artist's Adventures!

East Blue Saga

ARC: Tropic Haven

Chapter One

"Meet Kaito the Artist!"

{}

In the middle of the ocean, there is two boat side by side since there isn't enough room for three people in one boat. In a small boat where Luffy and Zoro are in and in a slight large boat is where Nami is. Right now, a certain straw-hat boy is complaining how hungry he is and it's getting on Nami's nerve. And Zoro just ignores as he is staring at the sky in boredom.

"Luffy…SHUT UP!" Nami snapped at him with her shark-teeth and Luffy pouted. Just as Nami was about to lecture him for leaving the island without supplies. She paused as she felt the temperature in the air. Her brown eyes glanced up with curious. "The air…the rain is coming."

Luffy and Zoro looked at her as they heard her mumbled. "Really?" Luffy eyes are wide in awe at his navigator's skills. Nami frowned and nodded her head. She quickly walked in the small shack and grabbed something from her bag. Then she walked out and unroll the map and quickly read over it.

"From the distance of the island, we left a few hours ago… the closer to the island is Tropic Haven. It's best to head there before we get caught up in the storm." Nami said.

"Tropic Haven?" Luffy blinked in confuse. Nami and Zoro stared at him in disbelieve. Luffy saw their reaction, "What?"

Zoro shakes his head. "I'm surprised you haven't heard about that island. Everyone knows it."

Luffy tilted his head in curiosity. "Eh? What is it?! What's an island like?!" he looked at his first mate and his navigator back and forth in excitement to hear about this island.

Nami sighed and placed her free hand on her hip as her other hand is holding the map. "The Tropic Haven is well-known for wild jungles, entertainment, and never-ending festivals. It filled with a lot of tourists to have vacation and fun." Nami briefly explained the island.

Luffy eyes are wide in excited. "COOL! When are we going to the island?!" his knees are bouncing up and down excitedly and two pirates sweatdropped at him.

Nami glanced at her map. "About an hour and a half. Probably just in time before the storm comes." she replied in satisfied.

.

.

.

When they arrived at the island, two straw-hats pirates and an orange-hair girl tied their boats in the post secure, so the storm doesn't wash them away. Luffy is bouncing on his feet in excitement while Nami and Zoro stared at him. Nami sighed and walk ahead of the boys, but Luffy ran pass by her leaving the dust smoke in a trail.

Nami twitched. "Just how much energy does that idiot have?" she grumbled as Zoro yawned while walking calmly.

When they saw Luffy standing in the middle of the road where there's many different townspeople and tourists walking around, and vendors are opened to caught anyone's attention about their objects. Nami glanced over the vendor and saw trinkets and pieces of jewelry with slight interests while Zoro observed his surrounding uninterested. "WOW!" Luffy gushed at this lively town.

Then, they noticed a group of Marines walked down the path while searching around. Nami eyeing at them nervously while two straw-hat pirates ignore them. When one of the marine guys turned to them, he walked to them with a frowned. "Excuse me, have you seen a red-haired kid around here?"

Luffy has interested right away. He only knew one man who has red hair and to think there's someone else who has red-haired like, Shanks. He couldn't help but curious. While Nami shook her head. "No. We didn't see a kid with red hair. May I ask, what's going on?" she asked with curious and confused.

The marine guy sighed heavily. "As you can see…" he pointed at the marine base, not too far, was painted in varies of different colors in tropical patterns. "He has illegally spray paint the base."

Zoro's lip twitched in amused while Luffy chuckled. Nami blinked in surprised. "Oh… a kid really did all those?" she asked with disbelieved. 'There's no way a kid did those all alone! It would take all day and night, judge by the size of that marine base building! Plus, how can no one catch the kid?!' Nami mused in stunned.

"Yes. He has done it again. And it's not the first time either." The marine guy sighed heavily once again. "If you see him, please alert one of us. He needs to be scold and clean up the base as his punishment again."

Luffy tilted his head. "He does this a lot?"

The marine guy nodded his head. "Once or twice a week. And the captain isn't very happy at this moment."

"Kid's got gut." Zoro gives his respect to the kid.

Nami twitched with annoyed, concerned, and amazed. "I…see."

When the marine guy farewells them and walked back to his group. They continued their searching for the troublemaker kid.

Then Luffy smelt the delicious aroma of meats that he immediately followed that belonged inside of the food restaurant. Zoro and Nami followed him in and saw him ordered the food. Zoro joined in as he ordered for sake while Nami sat down and asked for water.

The orange-hair girl turned to the window and saw grey clouds can and soon, the raindrops one by one that became the downpouring rain. She watched townspeople ran inside the building of their homes, workers and sellers shut down their vendors, tourists took shelters, and soon the path is empty. Inside of the warm and dry restaurant are lively and chatters. Nami turned back and blinked when she noticed Luffy is missing and Zoro is still drinking his sake. "Wh-where's Luffy?!" she demanded.

Zoro just shrugged his shoulders and Nami groaned out loud. 'Of course!'

.

.

.

Meanwhile, Luffy has snuck off into the kitchen and went inside of the storage that has food supplies. He drools at the sights of meat jerky in the shelves. He ran to them and grabbed it. Luffy gobbled it down until he paused when he heard creak sound behind him. "Who's there?" he asked with curiosity.

The straw-hat boy glanced around and saw a red-hair teenage boy sitting on top of the crate with an apple in hand. The boy was watching him with amuse. "Oh, don't mind me. Continue to gobble all those jerky meats." He grinned widely.

Luffy blinked. "Ah. You're that painter kid! Marines looking for you."

"I'm aware of that. Hence, hiding here as long as I can eat and drink." The painter tilted his head as he narrowed his eyes. "You are not from here. Tourist?"

Luffy swallowed his food. "You could say that." Then he grabbed another food. "What's your name?"

"Kaito! You?"

"Monkey D. Luffy!"

Kaito paused with a surprised glance. "You're a D?" he carefully examined. "That's interesting."

"Eh? What do you mean?"

The artist hummed. "Do you not know the Will of D?"

"Don't know, don't care. I only want to go on adventures and become a Pirate King!"

Silence in the food storage until Kaito barked out in laughter. "Gahahahaha! I like you, Luffy! That's an awesome dream, you got there." Luffy grinned at Kaito.

Then suddenly, a slammed heard and a deep voice shouted. "Where's that damn brat!"

Kaito clicked his tongue. "That old man has short-temper." He shook his head. "Well, it's my cue to leave and find another place to hide. See ya around, Luffy!" he waved at the straw-hat boy then quickly escape through the backdoor while Luffy was munching on his foods as he watches Kaito's escapes.

After Luffy finished stolen food. He returns to his crew who are watching the small group of marines searching and asking for a red-haired painter. Nami noticed the straw-hat and glared at him. "Where have you been?!" she snapped in irritated yet concerned.

"Shishishishi, I had some food." Luffy patted his stomach. Nami groaned while Zoro snorted softly and finished his sake.

Then a tall, dark-skinned man, black eyes, closely shaved blonde hair, stubble-covered jaw, and he has toned arms, powerful torso, and strong legs. He wears Marine uniform, and the most stand out about him is a symbolic tattoo covered his left arm to cover his hand. He glared at his surrounding until one of the other marines walked up to him and asked if they should check the storage room. "I've already checked it, nothing's there." He grumbled.

Luffy knew right away this marine is lying, protecting Kaito from getting caught. "So, he's a good man." He hummed. The straw-hat boy sat down next to his First Mate while Nami continuing watching the raining scene through the window.

Suddenly, a door slammed open with other Marines who had their hands holding a red-haired boy. Dragged into the restaurant.

"Let me go!" Kaito attempted to kick but he was holding in the air, he silently cursed his short height.

"Damn it, Kaito!" a tall marine grumbled so low, but enough for the straw-hat crew and Nami to heard it.

One of the marines cuffed Kaito's head. "Shut up, brat!"

Kaito hisses as he glared at the marine who hit him. "That's enough." A tall marine walked up with a scowl on his face.

"Ah, wassup old man." Again, he was cuffed in the head by the same marine.

"Be respectful to Sir. Botan" Kaito sticks his tongue out childishly.

Sir. Botan sighed heavily. "Kaito." The red-haired glanced up with casual expression. "The captain's patience can't last very long, with you continuing using illegal graffiti in this town. Sooner or later, you will be forced to leave this island if you don't stop with the unlawful act."

Silence bestows in the room, exception of the raining hitting the glass. Kaito snorted while Sir. Botan beckoned the marines to set the red-haired teenage down on his feet. "So, what? I wasn't even born on this island. I was found abandoned by the shitty dock in the shit-ass storm! I'm grateful that this town helped me since I was a few months old infants. I'm grateful to the villagers and the old mayor. But this isn't even my home. I never felt to belong here. So, I don't care if that shitty captain kicks me off this island! Anyways, it's about time for me to leave! I'm old enough now to sail on my own, to become a World's Greatest Artist! And nothing is gonna stop me from my goal, my dream, hell… I'm prepared to fight for it." He grinned sharply at Sir. Botan. "I will make sure my art will go with a bang in the end if I die."

Luffy stared at the red-haired painter who is staring straight at the tall marine. Then suddenly, something unexpected that Kaito immediately ducks and twirl his leg around to trip the marines. He slammed their heads with both of his elbows. "Never will I ever be captured and sent to in a cage." He ran off through the door, into the rain. The rest of the marine chase after him.

Sir. Botan sighed heavily once again. "I'm aware that you never belong to the cage." He whispered softly with concerned eyes. Then his eyes landed on the three kids in the table. "Oi, ya'll not from here?"

Nami blinked in surprised when the tall marine called out to them. "N-no. We're just passing by."

Luffy grinned widely. "We're going to the Grand Line!"

"Luffy!" Nami hissed at the idiot captain while Zoro shook his head.

"Grand Line? What business you have there?"

"Shishishi, to become a King of Pirate!"

Nami pales while Zoro sigh mutely as his hand settle on his swords for precaution. Sir. Botan stared at Luffy. "What's your name, kid?"

"Monkey D. Luffy!"

Sir. Botan raises his eyebrows. "D, you say, huh…" he mumbled to himself. "Would you take Kaito with you?" the small crew and Nami blinked at him with surprised and curious. "He has been raised on this island for sixteen years, but this island isn't meant for Kaito. That brat… he belongs to the sea, the adventures that are calling for him and to express his passion for his arts throughout the world. That is his dream. Will you be willing to take him?"

"…does he even wants to become a pirate?" Nami asked, doubtful.

The tall marine snorted. "With his criminal record, I doubt he would settle for being a Marine. In fact, he likes to mess with them." He shook his head. "It doesn't matter to him, pirate, villager, or even just a traveler, as long as he gets to sail on the ocean, going on adventures… he'll be living his dream while expressing his arts skill."

Luffy tilted his head. "….he's pretty cool." He slowly grinned widely. Nami knew his expression meant right away, she sighed loudly as her shoulders slumped. While Zoro raised his eyebrows but then shrugged his shoulders.

"Captain's decision." Zoro set his empty mug down on the table.

Sir. Botan nods his head. "I believe he should be at west woods from here, you'll see it." He said mysteriously then walked to the door. "…please take good care of that brat." Then left.

Kaito leaned back against the cushions that were leaned against the wall inside of a treehouse. His burnt orange eyes stared through the open window of a light dazzle rain. Soon, the rain will be stopped. The red-haired painter hummed as his eyes shifted to his little home. The place was filled with his arts, one wall was filled with painted, colored, and sketches of people, buildings, natures, and animals. Across from the wall, the table was filled with clay and Claymation of objects such as fruits, characters, weapons, and animals. There are spray-paint cans, paintbrushes, charcoals, erasers, and pencils scattered near the table. There are a few cushions that were found abandoned that he took to his home for sitting and sleeping.

This little treehouse was his getaway, his hiding place, and his art paradise. He reached for his slightly old grey backpack, took out a blue leather sketchbook and placed it on his lap. He smooths the cover with the artistic title of his name. He opened it gently as his eyes solemn at the page of a detail woman drawn in black and white. She looked remarkably like him as he is kind of feminine, except her hair is longer, her eyes are fuller and brighter, her skin is fair, and her body shape is curvy and slim. Kaito never saw what his birth mother looks like, never knew what her hair color is, or eyes color, and even if she's tall or short.

He would never know what his parents look like. He doesn't know if his father has red hair, or maybe black hair but orange eyes? Or his mother might bear with red hair and blue eyes? Or black eyes? There are many, many unanswered questions buzzing in his mind. No one knew anything about his parents, just that he was found at the abandoned dock during the storm when he was only a few months old infants in the small boat.

Kaito often dreams, drawn what his parents would look like. He turned the page of a detailed man drawn in black and white as well. It was supposedly his father. He looked like Kaito, but more masculine, more toned, his eyes are sharper and stronger, his hair was slightly long, barely touch his shoulders with nose-length bangs, his skin is slightly darker as if he's been out in the sun all day every day, and his body is top-athletic like.

The artist loves to draw things in colors than black and white, but he couldn't bring himself to color his "parents" as he wasn't sure what they truly looked like. Hell, his parents in drawing probably don't look the same. For all he knew, his mother could be short, chubby and short hair and his father could be skinny like a stick with a bald head and had mustaches.

Kaito sighed softly as he turned another page and allow a small smile appeared on his face. It's a pretty little girl in colors. She has long waist-length violet hair with full bangs, soft clouded-blue eyes, pale skin, blue summer dress with white sandals, and wears silver unique beads bracelet wrapped around her left wrist. She was sitting on a wheelchair underneath the large tree. She was smiling so wide as her hair was playing by the breezes. He gently stroke the picture with sadden eyes.

"So COOL!" Kaito immediately snapped his sketchbook shut with startled. His burnt orange eyes widen when he saw straw-hat boy appeared through the window. He blinked owlishly. "….Luffy?" Luffy turned to Kaito with a large grinned.

"You have awesome skills!" he praises as he eyeing a bunch of different sketches, drawings, and sculptors.

Kaito stared at Luffy with a face. "…why are you here?" he asked with suspicion.

Luffy glanced at the red-haired painter. "Join my crew."

"Pardon?" Kaito's mind went blank.

The straw-hat boy laughed. "You want to become World's Greatest Artist, right? Then join my crew!"
