A little late in the season for this but I thought with all the globetrekking in the Uncharted 'verse it would be nice if they could spend winter someplace nice and warm. And I like the thought of Elena nodding off while working on her tan so I just went from there. Thanks for reading and everybody belongs to Naughty Dog/SCEA.
He gently traced his fingertips along the smooth curve of her back to let her know he was there in case she had fallen asleep. Her skin was warm from the daytime sun, and when he touched her she said, "mmmm," and stretched like a cat. If he had been in the mood for silliness he would have grazed her with one of the cold drinks in his other hand to get a funny reaction, but the moment was too peaceful so he only set the glasses down in the sand instead.
Elena yawned as he took the lounge chair next to hers, rubbing her eyes behind her sunglasses. It was easy to doze off out here on a nice day, with the sun shining and the surf rhythmically rushing the shore and the trilling of tropical birds in the trees. They had no shortage of nice days. "Oh, am I already boring you? Sorry, I'll leave." Nathan started to get up.
Her chuckle turned into another yawn as she put a staying hand on his bare chest. "Had a weird dream just now… I was talking with Chloe, everything was fine and then out of nowhere we started fighting. I mean like a fistfight, we were on the ground and everything," she said, rolling onto her side so she could face him. "Don't ask me why or how it turned out, I never remember my dreams after."
"Sounds hot. Was I there?"
"It really wasn't. And yes, but it's not like you were jumping in to help me or anything." She waved off the fading reverie and stretched out on her back as he picked up their drinks, holding one out to her. Condensation had collected a cap of sand around the bottom of each, like a rim of salt on two upside-down margaritas. "What's this?"
"Happy Thanksgiving."
"You spoil me." She sniffed before fishing out the lime to suck on it approvingly. "Vodka cranberry, clever."
"I try." Nathan reclined comfortably and adjusted his aviators so he could appreciate the view of her legs without being blinded by the flash of sunlight on seawater. "I can mush some crabmeat into the shape of a turkey if you want, and you can pretend the butter is gravy, but that's the best I got."
"I'm good if you are," she said contentedly, letting one foot down to bury her toes in the soft white sand. He knew she enjoyed the feel of it on her bare skin, the way the pale surface glimmered with reflected heat and the coolness of the layers beneath, like granulated silk. "You now, I think I'd even forgotten what month it is. The days all run together when we're here, like one long summer that never ends."
They drank in silence as the ocean foamed against the shoreline and behind them the palms swished lazily in a gentle breeze, the quiet broken only by the occasional jiggling of ice. Out in the bay a pod of dolphins was leaping on the sparkling blue water and Elena dug her phone out from the folds of her towel to capture the moment on video.
"Are you complaining?" he asked her, grinning lazily.
When she leaned over to kiss him he lost himself in the softness of her lips, her smile warmer than the sun. "Only that you didn't bring the bottle. Think you married some kinda lightweight?"
