In one of her songfics, Angelofjoy said she wasn't happy with the resolution of the Danny/Rachel situation and this story dropped in my head complete. Never thought I'd write a Step-Stan story.
Vengeance is Mine
Stan Edwards studied the zoning code and decided, regretfully, he'd have to let his vengeance go for now.
He had enjoyed harassing the man who'd had an affair with his wife. Even better, he'd done it unsuspected at a safe distance from the volatile Danny Williams. And, best of all, everything he'd done had been perfectly legal.
Stan had realized that though the Five-0 detective had connections, so did Stan. And Stan's were in the building industry.
The plot had started when Stan saw the apartment complex where Danny lived on a short list of properties his companies were considering for a condo project. An imp of retaliation had led Stan to move that address to the top of the list, though, perhaps, two of the other properties had superior locations.
Stan had been delighted to find out later that he'd gotten Danny kicked out of his apartment and had sent him house hunting in the high-priced market of Oahu.
When Danny started to move into a place just after Halloween, Stan figured his scheme was over, but that lease had fallen through for some reason — maybe the no pet clause.
It was a gift when Danny moved back to that crappy residential hotel. The place was obviously foul. Even Grace complained and she never complained about her beloved father.
All Stan had had to do was call a complaint to the health inspectors about substandard conditions in order to put Danny out on the street again. That move wasn't just legal, it was his duty at a citizen, Stan thought with a sly grin. He wasn't even sure Danny would complain about it. None of them wanted Grace exposed to toxic mold.
So Stan's rival ended up sleeping on his partner's couch, according to Grace. Stan smiled again at the friction that must have caused.
But now it looked like Danny had found a decent place to live in a residential neighborhood out of Stan's reach.
The businessman shrugged. You had to know when to quit. Stan accepted that Danny's months of homelessness were acceptable revenge for Stan's months of wifelessness.
Stan closed the folder on the Williams project and neatly filed the reports away. He might need that research again someday.
