The war had been going on for 54 years now. Young Kinosho, only six years old was sitting around the round table, waiting patiently for something to save him from the hunger. The Fire Nation had taken over the small village on Tepashi seven years prior. Kinosho's older brother was conscripted into the army so it was just his mum, his sister and himself. His father was part of the resistance and was killed shortly before Kinosho was born. Kinosho had apparently inherited this trait. Several months earlier he threw a pebble at one of the soldiers. In doing so he had cut the families rations to a minimal amount of eggs, rabbitchicken, rice and cabbages. All they had left on this certain day was cabbage. The next supply was two days away and Kinosho was scared his mother wouldn't make it. One of the fire nation guards impregnated her yet still treated her as the scum of the planet, not caring whether she survived the pregnancy. Kinosho had tried to gain aid from fellow Tepashi members but they were too worried about their family, let alone another one. Finally, a small amount of cabbage was placed gently into Kinosho's bowl. Kinosho grabbed the rusted utensils, about to savour the precious food he had. He noticed how neither his sister nor mother touched the food. He also had the biggest share and it made him feel guilt. His mother started to play with the cabbage, scraping the fork against the bowl. Melina, Kinosho's sister moved her share into her mother's bowl.

"Here mum, you can have my share" Melina said. A small smile escaped onto their mothers face. Kimosho sighed and pushed his bowl closer to her.

"I'm not hungry. You can have mine" he lied. Tears started to swell in her eyes.

"Thank you. I love you both very much."

This is why he grew up with a strong connection with cabbages and would get both frustrated and upset when they were destroyed, especially by the boy that was supposed to protect his family all those years ago.
