Tousled and Disoriented

Lily's head snapped up from her transfiguration notes as an abrupt slam of doors and a familiar low-pitched voice echoed through Professor McGonagall's classroom.
"Sorry we're late Minnie," Began one of the very many excuses Sirius Black had tucked up his sleeve. "I forgot my quill up in the common room and had to go back and get it."
McGonagall sighed. "That explains why Miss. Potter was accompanying you, and why my lesson is half over."
Lily craned around Peter in the row in front of her to see her best friend standing just behind Sirius looking very tousled and disoriented, but grinning none the less. Lily shook her head, lately that expression was becoming very familiar.
Sirius simply shrugged in response to his Professor and started over towards the empty seat beside James. "I guess it took longer, and," he glanced at Emily, "I guess needed more help than I anticipated."
McGonagall raised her eyebrows at this. "Than I guess you shall have no problem spending more time than you anticipate this Saturday afternoon for detention." She then turned to Emily. "That means you as well, Miss. Potter."
Emily was too wrapped up in her own little world to really understand the meaning or the public embarrassment of McGonagall's words, but Lily was sure she would be throwing daggers at Sirius later.
"Oh, and Mr. Black?" Sirius spun in place to face his Professor, bewildered. "Next time you button your shirt, make sure it's done properly."
