Another Thomas rewrite, this time it's "Percy and the Signal" from Season 2. Enjoy and comment.

Percy works in the yard at the big station, and loves to play jokes on the other engines, which often leads to trouble.

One morning, Percy was very cheeky indeed.

He puffed up to Gordon.

"Hurry up lazybones, the Express is waiting!"

Gordon thought he was late.

Percy laughed, and puffed off with freight cars full of coal.

Gordon was cross. He wanted to get Percy back for teasing him.

Then, Percy saw James.

"Sir Topham Hatt said for you to stay in your shed until he comes!"

James was delighted.

"Sir Topham Hatt knows that I'm the finest engine of Sodor!" he boasted. "He probably wants me to pull a special train!"

James's driver and fireman could not make him move.

The other engines were cross. They had to do all of James's work,

Soon, the stationmaster arrived.

"Let's go James!" he shouted. "You can't stay here all day!"

"But Sir Topham Hatt told me so!"

"No he didn't! He's on holiday for the week!"

James was cross. He knew Percy was behind this.

Sir Topham Hatt soon found out the news, and when he returned, he spoke in a severe tone to Percy and James. He was very cross with them both too.

"Behavior like this will not be accepted on my railway! I expect better behavior from you both, or else you both will be locked in your sheds until further notice."

Next day, Percy was still being cheeky.

He puffed up to Gordon and James.

"Sir Topham Hatt told me to take some freight cars to Thomas's junction. He said that I'm a really useful engine!"

What Percy didn't know, was that Gordon and James were to pull a trick on him.

"James and I were talking about the signals at the junction." said Gordon.

"But there's now backing signals!" added in James. "Want me to explain what they are?"

"No thank you." said Percy. "I know all about signals."

Percy was a little worried.

"I wonder what backing signals are?" he thought as he puffed away.

Percy was coupled up to his freight cars, and set off.

He then came to a signal, which was red. That meant, there was danger.

"Bother!" groaned Percy.

Then, the signal turned green, which meant it was clear to go.

But before Percy set off, the signal turned blue.

Percy had never seen a blue signal before.

"That must mean it safe to go." thought Percy. "But it must also mean that I must go backwards instead of forwards. It must be a backing signal!"

"Come along Percy!" called his driver. "Off we go!"

But Percy puffed backwards instead of forward.

"Stop! You're going the wrong way!"

"But it's a backing signal!" protested Percy.

Percy's driver laughed.

Just then, Gordon chuffed by with the Express, having seen everything.

Percy puffed away, going forwards this time.

That night, the engines talked about signals.

They thought it was funny, but Percy didn't think so at all.
