Northern Lights

We went there in secret, laying quietly on the softly packed snow, hands clasped wonderfully between us, my fingers confident- for once.

Sure, I was out of the metaphorical closet, but I still wasn't exactly comfortable with PDA, and I knew Magnus kind of was. In the warm romance of places like Italy and Paris he had received the occasional kiss in the city streets, tangled fingers atop white linen and spaghetti sauce splotches. But still, I knew my usual coolness hurt him; and the last thing on earth and above I wanted to do was hurt my Magnus Bane.

Tonight though, it was only us, the lonely moon, and dancing northern lights.

He didn't tell anyone else- not even me, not until we were finally there. We had taken several planes, taxis, buses, and even a team of snow dogs, and even though I hated surprises, I didn't mind. Besides, no one needed to know.

"Do you like it?" He looked down at me with hopeful eyes, the silver glitter in his hair sparkling with the different colors.

I tore my eyes away from the pretty undulating hues in the sky to set the gaze on something even more glorious- someone sitting right next to me. "It's amazing," I breathed. "Magnus, I love it. I-I love you."

His beautiful green-yellow eyes widened in the light, his jaw dropping and his breath catching. He had dropped the L-Bomb on me in Paris- both a good and bad thing. It was good because, well, he loved me. But, after that, we hadn't been able to explore the sights because we were pretty, err, busy. Oh well, there wasn't much to see in Paris anyway.

I hadn't been able to say it back, though. I knew I loved him, and he seemed to know it too, but he had simply pressed a finger to my lips, smiling and saying "Shh, it's okay." I had accepted that answer.

"I-" He stuttered (I took great pleasure in the fact that only I, Alexander Lightwood, could make Magnus Bane stutter.) A huge white grin turned purple in the night light stretched across his face. "I love you, too."

I smiled, still turning a slight pink at the words, and turned back to the sky. I rested my head against his shoulder, his arm snaking around my waist and pulling me yet closer, his lips placed lightly atop my head.

No one needed to know.
