"Alfred!"
The elderly man in question looked up from his gardening and turned, confused for a minute before shock wrote across his face.
"Miss Micah, is that you?"
Miss Micah Wayne smiled up at the man she always considered a grandfather and wrapped her arms around his neck as he hugged back, laughter ringing from his voice.
"Oh Miss Micah, I have missed you."
"I missed you too, Alfred. Is my brother in?"
Alfred looked at his pocket watch and then up at the setting sun, "I believe he is out but I can call him back. This is more important than anything else."
Micah smiled and shook her head, "No, it's quite alright. Bruce never liked surprises so why not drag it out a bit? Surprise him tomorrow when he's waking up."
Alfred laughed and held out an arm, which Micah graciously took, and headed back up to the Manor.
"Would you like some lunch?"
"That sounds wonderful but may I add another member to our party?"
Alfred stopped and looked down at Micah's left hand, looking for a ring.
"Are you betrothed?"
Micah laughed, making the old man smile, "I was but that didn't pan out very well, he traveled too much and had a pretty little habit that he just couldn't kick."
"Then who are we adding?"
Micah turned and looked at the swing set where a little boy was singing and swinging by himself, "Aydin, can you come here?"
"Coming Momma!"
Alfred was stunned, not only was the little girl he helped raised a woman, but she was a mother. The little boy ran up and wrapped his arms around her leg, looking up at Alfred.
"Momma?"
"Aydin, this is Alfred."
"Grandpa Alfred?"
Micah chuckled, "Yes, Grandpa Alfred."
Aydin slowly moved towards Alfred and lifted his arms with a big smile on his face. Alfred couldn't help but smile back and pick up the small boy.
"How old are you, Master Aydin?"
"Two and a half, I turn three in a month."
"Then you must have a birthday to remember. It's not every day a boy turns three."
Micah watched as Aydin and Alfred made their way to the house, smiles on their faces. She knew they would be safe here but just how safe, she wasn't sure. There was a lot that happened in Gotham but where else could she go? As long as she could get Aydin away from John, she was happy. Maybe Bruce could help more than just as a fun loving uncle.
