The Blacklight Virus wiped out the majority of Manhattan Island. I say "wiped out" because that's the "official" report from the Marines, something about a "terrorist threat." No, it did far worse than that. The virus threatened not just all of New York, not just all of the United States, but the world. Luckily, Alex Mercer helped slow down the infection, ironic, that he was the one to release the virus. I guess that's some twisted way to redeem himself.

But that was ten years ago. Blackwatch was able to contain the infection, taking samples from only the "best" specimens, including the corpse of Mercer himself. Yes, even gods can fall. But in his wake, the destruction was immense. It took a tactical nuke to finally destabilize his cells long enough to hinder his regeneration. At least it was quick, a Blackwatch sniper round through the skull.

But, Blackwatch didn't learn their lesson the first time, it seems. They broke up all of the viral-mutated DNA, and broke it up among twenty-four individuals. Yes, 24 different subjects, each assigned a codename. But one escaped, the last one, before anything major could be done to his DNA. By major, I mean that the mutation only made it to the "enhanced strength and speed" stage before his escape.

That was a month ago. I've been on the run from police and Blackwatch officials the entire time. For me and my "siblings," Alex Mercer was our Prototype. My name is Jake Cozart, and I am Subject Omega.
