A dedication to FivebyFive89. Written in the vein of Mass Effect 2's pre-suicide mission love scene.

It's set. Everything's in place. The only thing left to do now...

Is wait.

Suvi hated the waiting. She sat, nervous, on Sara's bed. Their bed. Hands rubbing together, a habit, biting her lip, thinking of all the horrible ways things could go wrong. No, nothing will. They've done so much, it was inconceivable things could go wrong. And Sara, bless her heart, so brave, standing up against that wee shite Archon. Suvi's done her best, found Meridian's position in the cluster, five sleepless nights in a row, Lexi worried for her health.

And now, it was time to see if all their prep had been worth it.

Suvi's head whipped up at the sound of the doors sliding open. She was on her feet and in Sara's arms in seconds, pulling the younger woman close, inhaling the scent of her hair, a mix of lavender, oil and dust. Sara hugged her back just as hard, the two women trying to find each other again, to hold on tight, knowing that this could possibly be the last night they were together.

Suvi drew back, but before she could say anything, Sara had pressed her lips to hers, gentle, like their first time. Suvi closed her eyes, feeling the heady rush of affection for the Pathfinder in her arms, the woman with whom she'd shared so many thoughts about religion and science, both finding so many things they agreed on, so compatible. Suvi's absentmindedness, Sara's penchant for rushing headlong into battle, they found the little imperfections in each other, and they weren't imperfections; they were perfect little snippets of themselves, which endeared Sara even more to herself, and vice versa.

The back of Suvi's knees bumped into the edge of the mattress; she fell, releasing a little "Ah!" as she did so, landing on the mattress. Sara was on her, her hands cupping Suvi's cheeks, her kisses becoming more rough, hungry, wanting. Suvi found it... hot. Sara'd always been so gentle, but with the looming cloud of doom over them, it didn't seem out-of-character for the woman she loved.

On the contrary, Suvi felt a devilish grin appear on her face. What the hell.

She reached both hands behind Sara, grabbing, fumbling, for the hem of her pants. They needn't say anything. No questions asked. They both knew how they felt at the moment, and they wanted it to last for as long as it could, like back in the science lab on the Nexus. The first time, it was perfect, a culmination of all their banters and flirting. But now, now it was purely the passion, the heat that drove the both of them.

Suvi raised her arms, allowing Sara to undo her science officer's top, sending it flying through the air before trailing kisses from her lips to her cheeks, then down her neck, then to her chest, her collarbones. It tickled, and Suvi giggled a little, Sara pausing in her ministrations, breathless, to grin at her lover. "You ready, Suv? I'm not holding back. Not this time."

Suvi ran her hands down Sara's front, tugging the scarf off, then unzipping Sara's jacket top. She was wearing nothing underneath, which made Suvi's breath hitch. So brave of her! She cupped Sara's breasts in her hands, so warm, so soft. She pulled Sara to her, pressing her cheek against Sara's chest, finding the heartbeat that had been beating in sync with her own for so many weeks now. It was strong, so strong, Sara nestling the top of her head, pressing a soft kiss to it.

Suvi drew back, and stared into those beautiful blue eyes. "My dear Sara... take me. Let us not forget tonight, my love."

"Thought you'd never ask, Suv," quipped Sara, before pushing Suvi back down onto the bed.
