Verity- Just something we made up when we were bored and couldn't sleep. Very short. These are Zel's thoughts at the beginning of Try. Based slightly on the episode in Next where the gang goes to Artemay Tower and Zel's muttering to himself at the end. "What is the meaning of my existence? To be a convenient lackey for Lina? No… I'm supposed to be a heartless swordsman. A bit dark and mysterious, but not too dark and mysterious…"

The Convenient Lackey!
Come and sail to the Outerworld to find my cure. That is all I want. Is it too much to ask for? When you're me, it's beyond too much to ask for. I see Lina and Gourry over at the tables beside the ocean's edge. I know it's too late for me. The moment I saw them, I was immediately damned on the spot. Whatever was about to happen, I was a part of it.
Lina and Gourry are having one of those fights they always have. It was just a sign of their affections for one another.
Sighing, I walk over to them. I might as well get this over with.
"Good grief. You two never change."
Who knows? Maybe if I'm lucky, Amelia'll show up. No, wait. It's definite she'll show up. When Lina has to save the world or defeat a Dark Lord, we're all shuffled into the mess together. I know better to fight it. Amelia knows better, too.
I know it is the meaning of my existence for now. I am caught in the God's game of chess, but maybe one day, I'll be taken off the bored. But for now, l have to go be a convenient lackey for Lina…
