Harry and Ron had to admit as they sat in the waiting room that they felt just a little immature. Everyone else was seventeen or just over since that was the age you could take your apparition test from. They had been putting it off for years and years, ever since Ron failed it the first time and Harry never got a chance to take it. Ron seemed pretty nervous as they waited whereas Harry was actually quite confident. He had been apparating for years due to his job as an auror but he had never actually bothered to take a test until Kingsley had pointed out it was technically illegal.

Another youth went into the room to find out where they were supposed to be apparating to and Ron turned to Harry saying, "I could get away with side-along apparition all my life don't you think? Hermione doesn't mind when I travel that way and-"

"Ron, grow up. You know that you can't constantly travel that way and Hermione won't always be able to help you know! Now come on you know what you have to do and you know exactly how to do it," Harry said with a grin at his best friend. "Now what are the three D's?"

"Destination, determination, deliberation," Ron said confidently.

"Ah, good at least you know them then," a witch said who they hadn't noticed. "I am your Examiner today Bella Thomas, but you can of course call me Bella. Now Mr Weasley – or can I call you Ron? – it's time for your test."

Ron looked like he was going to be sick but he stood up and nodded once at Harry before following Bella through the door. Harry's examiner came out minutes later but didn't seem anywhere near as nice as Bella. The man was old and called himself "Mr Binns" and Harry had no doubt he was a relative of the ghost teacher Professor Binns. He had a grey moustache and grey hair and Harry had to strain his ears to hear what he was saying.

An hour later and both of them were sitting back in the waiting room eagerly awaiting their results. Actually Ron wasn't that eager, he seemed near terrified and Harry had to physically hold him down to stop him from going to the toilet every few seconds or leaving completely. Eventually a witch came out holding a sheet of paper and called out, "Mr Weasley? Mr Potter?"

They both leapt to their feet at once looking terrified from one to the other before hurrying forwards to find out whether they had passed or not. Ron knew that George would take the mickey out of them for months if they failed not to mention Hermione and Ginny. They stepped forwards and the witch pulled out two rolls of parchment from her robes tied with red string.

"Congratulations, both of you, you have passed you apparition test AND are the oldest people I have seen here for months!"

Harry, Ron, Ginny and Hermione headed out that night to celebrate. Both women walked down the stairs and Ginny asked, as she linked her arm through Harry's, "Are we taking the car then?"

"No," Ron said with a laugh, "We're apparating of course!" And they were gone with a loud crack.
