Cause of the Fire
The turtles were up on the surface patrolling the city. They had managed to stop a couple robberies while they were up there.
Just then, a figure headed towards them and the turtles withdrew their weapons. They put their weapons away and breathed a sigh of relief when they realized it was eight year old Chloe Calls.
"Chloe, how's it going?" Mikey asked.
"I need your help," Chloe said.
"Everything OK?" Donny asked with concern.
"For some reason, I can't stop thinking about the fire that killed my parents," Chloe said.
"What do you want us to do?" Raph asked.
"I need to know what caused the fire," Chloe said.
"We'll see what we can do," Leo said.
"That would be great," Chloe said.
The turtles offered to walk Chloe home. Chloe graciously accepted the offer.
After making sure Chloe made it inside her place safely, the turtles headed to her old apartment building. When they got there, they saw that most of the building had caught on fire since quite a bit of the building was missing.
"There's hardly anything left," Raph said.
"Look's like Chloe's apartment wasn't the only one that caught on fire," Donny said.
"How will we help out Chloe now?" Mikey asked.
"We have to search throughout the remains for the cause of the fire," Leo said.
The others nodded in agreement. Then they headed towards the remains of the apartment building.
The turtles were digging through the remains of the apartment building trying to find the cause of the fire. Half an hour later, Mikey came across a frayed wire.
"I think I found something," Mikey called and the others rushed over and saw the frayed wire.
"You found a wire?" Raph asked in disbelief.
"Actually, it looks like this was the cause of the fire," Donny said.
"We should let Chloe know," Leo said.
The others nodded in agreement. The turtles got themselves out of the apartment remains and headed towards Chloe's place.
A little later, Chloe was getting ready for bed. She heard a knock on her window. She went to the window and saw the turtles there. Chloe opened the window, let them in, and then shut the window again.
"Did you find the cause of the fire?" Chloe asked once she sat down on her bed.
"We did," Leo replied.
"What was it?" Chloe asked.
"It was caused by faulty wiring," Donny replied.
"Ok," Chloe replied. "I think I'll go to sleep now."
The turtles helped tuck Chloe in and she fell asleep. Then they left the same way they came.
Later that night, Splinter had retired to his room and went to bed. Leo decided to check on his brothers.
Leo headed for Raph's room first and found him sleeping in the hammock. Leo grabbed a nearby blanket, covered Raph with it, and left the room.
Mikey's room was next. Leo peeked in and found Mikey curled up in his bed with his kitten, Klunk, sleeping soundly.
After that, Leo headed for Donny's room. Donny was laying in his bed staring into space so Leo entered the room.
"Everything OK?" Leo asked with concern.
"I was just thinking about Chloe's reaction tonight," Donny replied.
"She did seem pretty calm."
"Non-expressive was more like it."
"Did she react the same way when you told her that her parents didn't survive the fire?"
"Actually, she did."
"If we lost Splinter, I don't think I would've been as calm as Chloe."
"Same here, and neither would Raph or Mikey."
"You can say that again."
"I still want to be her friend though."
"If that's what you want, I'll support you."
"Thanks."
"I think I'll go to bed now."
"If you want, you can stay here."
Leo agreed and got into bed next to Donny. The two of them talked for a while. Eventually, the two of them snuggled up together. Then they fell asleep.
