Kas aastatuhandeid mingu,

siis vast see haiget ei tee,

et suurte rahvaste kõrval

on vaba ka väikene.

~ Juhan Liiv

24 February 1918

''I, RIGHT NOW, RIGHT HERE, DECLARE MYSELF AN INDEPENDENT DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC. '' Estonia said as he marched into the meeting room. He shoved a copy of MANIFESTO TO THE PEOPLES OF ESTONIA in Russia's face.

There was silence, as they were waiting for Russia's reaction. Others saw none. However, Germany chuckled darkly.

On 24th February 1918, Estonia declared his independence, however he was occupied by Germans the following day. Soon the War of Independence started.

24 February 1956

It was a clear, crisp winter day. Many Estonians were beaming with joy. The town was covered in blue-black-white combination. The militia were already beating people up. However, they didn't dare to take down the flags, because there was the box with 'bomb' written on it.

Eduard grinned. Oh, how he would like to see their faces when it turned out there wasn't a bomb there.

It would be the worth the beating he would get.

Brilliant prank pulled by unknown students in Võru during Soviet Occupation.

Climbing the Tall Herman was not easy. Especially in very early morning. But he could already feel his people getting excited. It was worth it.

Once on top, he felt as if he was one top of the world. He could see everyone near the tower clearly, looking at tower with hope. Everyone wanted to see Blue-Black-White flag being hoisted.

''Just two minutes remaining..'' Said an older gentleman, looking at his watch.

''Yes.'' Eduard smiled. He seemed to do that a lot lately.

''Youngsters, aren't you cold?'' asked a representative of Popular Front.

Eduard and and others shook their head.

'' It's time..'' Eesti said, holding out the Flag.

They hoisted the Flag, while singing the anthem.

Eduard could feel that his people were happy. All of the sudden, he was pulled into a hug. He saw everyone crying. Touching his cheek, he felt tears.

For the first time since 1940, The Estonian flag was hoisted in Tall Herman once again. However, Estonia still wasn't free from the Soviet Union.

Eduard could see flags everywhere. He could his people, feel their joy and pride.

''Excellent weather for today.'' His boss said.

''Indeed.''

He turned back to the crowd, watching military machines ride by. Nice day, indeed. And the best way to spend it was with his people.

Mis maa see on? Siin pole ühtki mäge.
Vaid metsad lõputud ja laukasood.
Kuid siinne rahvas täis on imeväge
Ja kummalised nende laululood.

A/N: Happy Birthday Eduard, and Happy Independence day to all Estonians. The poem at the beginning and end are both in Estonian. If you wish, I can give rough translation. Any corrections on grammar welcomed.

I don't own Hetalia or It's characters.
