WARNING! MAJOR SPOILERS FOR THE FIRST SEASON OF ROZEN MAIDEN!
That being said, now I can get on with it. This takes place somewhere in the beginning of Traumend. I don't know how accurate it is (but hey, this is fanfiction. Who really cares?)
Disclaimer: I do not own Rozen Maiden. I doubt that the people who do will ever read this but you know, better safe than sorry!
To live is to fight. That was what she had told Jun. It was her code, her motto, whatever you wanted to call it, they were the words she had built her existence around. Her life was a battleground; she gave no mercy and expected none. That was the way her world worked.
Her sister's face was contorted with fear. Suigin Tou screamed as the flames rose higher. "NOOOO! No please-"
Shinku's eyes flickered open as she came awake. She was lying on Jun's bed, an open book in her lap. Shinku supposed she must have fallen asleep reading. She stretched out and stood. The dream remained somewhere in her conciousness.
The room was dark and quiet, the only sound being Jun's slow rhythmic breaths. Shinku closed her eyes once more and let the familiar noises surround and calm her.
Why was she dreaming about Suigin Tou? The first Rozen Maiden was dead, by Shinku's own hand. There was no reason for her to feel guilt; Suigin Tou had been threatening Jun. She had to protect her medium. There was no other way.
But still Suigin Tou's agonized face still floated in the back of her mind. Shinku placed a hand over her face.
Was this what Barasuishou meant? The Rozens Maidens were made to fight, and yet she was feeling guilty over a battle that she had won. To live is to fight. Had she stopped fighting? Was she really betraying herself and her father?
Suigin Tou disappeared from her mind, to be replaced by another: Hina Ichigo. She wore an identical expression of fear as Barasuishou threatened her. Shinku stared at the floor angrily.
They were sisters! How could they fight and kill each other so?
And yet, that was their whole purpose. She shook her head, trying to clear her thoughts. Oh, this was so confusing! Everything had seemed so simple before…
Jun stirred and muttered in his sleep. Shinku looked over at him and smiled slightly, a tender expression that few would ever see. He was the source of some of her confusion, but she couldn't blame him for it. How could anyone who was not a Maiden possibly hope to understand? Her gaze drifted towards the shadows of the room, where her sisters, the other Maidens, lay sleeping.
And suddenly, she knew. To live is to fight. She hadn't stopped fighting. In fact, she had just begun. Only her reason for fighting had changed. I must fight for them, for all of us. She couldn't let another sister die. That's what the dreams of Suigin Tou had been trying to tell her. She would fight, but not for herself. Shinku's fists clenched over her dress.
To live is to fight. I will fight. For Hina Ichigo, for Jun. For Suisei Seki and for Sousei Seki and all of them.
And as for Father and his vision of Alice…Shinku's heart quailed at the thought of disobeying his wishes. But she would think about that later.
Right now, she would live.
A/N: Yes! I did it! A non-depressing story! See I knew I could do it!
Actually the idea came for this fic in the middle of English class after I got two D's on my essays. To live is to fight seems like a good motto for me right now. I will fight for better essay grades! (Okay, that sounds a little strange but I am very competitive. Bear with me.)
Review (or flame, whatever's your thing.) Thank you for reading!
