Inuyasha ran from the gates of the village holding a bejeweled necklace in his hand. The necklace was sought after by every demon and human alike. It held a jewel called "The Jewel of Four Souls." The necklace was in the hands and protection of a beautiful young miko and priestess named Kikyo.
Kikyo was the most powerful miko in the region. Along with her powers, she was a master archer that could kill an enemy with an arrow from five hundred yards away.
Kikyo held her injured side and ran after Inuyasha. She had been slashed in her side by his claws and now bled heavily.
You keep these feelings, no one knows
What ever happened to the young man's heart
Swallowed by pain, as he slowly fell apart
Kikyo stopped in her tracks and notched an arrow into her bow. She concentrated her miko powers into the arrow and released it. The arrow shot like a bolt of lightning with swirling blue aura around it.
The arrow found its home and embedded Inuyasha to the God Tree behind him. He gasped and dropped the jeweled necklace. It hit the ground and rolled back into the hands of Kikyo.
Kikyo looked into the eyes of Inuyasha with hatred and said, "Die Inuyasha."
Swimming through the ashes of another life
No real reason to accept the way things have changed
Staring down the barrel of a 45
Inuyasha's eyes teared up and he looked at Kikyo. She stared at him as he slowly slipped into a deep slumber. His head slowly fell to the side as his heart beat a steady and almost dead tempo against his chest.
Send a message to the unborn child
Keep your eyes open for a while
In a box high up on the shelf, left for you, no one else
After Kikyo knew that he would not move anytime soon, she let out a sigh of a relief.
All of a sudden pain gripped her from all fronts and she fell to the ground. The villagers came rushing up beside wondering what was wrong. Kikyo moved her from her side to review a deep gash that went to the bone.
Kaede, Kikyo's young sister, ran up to Kikyo hugging her and crying.
"Kikyo will you be alright?" asked young Kaede.
"I hope so, Kaede. I hope so," said Kikyo tearfully.
She ran her hand across Kaede's face and looked at her black eyepatch that covered one eye.
There's a piece of a puzzle known as life
Wrapped in guilt, sealed up tight
What ever happened to the young man's heart
Swallowed by pain, as he slowly fell apart
A few minutes later, Kikyo's breathing became labored and she fell into a coma. The villagers did what they could to revive her, but nothing seemed to work.
And from that moment Kikyo had finally been laid to rest. She had protected the one thing that she had pledged her life to.
The villagers gathered her now lifeless body and began to erect a funeral pyre. The jewel necklace was placed in her hands and her bow and quiver and arrows were placed at her left side.
The village elder said a few words about Kikyo's life and they lit the fire that would send Kikyo's soul skyward.
Always condemning me
And nobody knows what I believe
I believe
