One glossy, majestic wing stretched to its full span, catching the light. That is, the light that reached down here.

The only other light was that pale ethereal green that emanated from the not quite liquid substance that flowed through the caverns of this planet. The green only made the owner of the wing's eyes seem brighter.

Part of him was shaking with anticipation, for the thrill of battle was calling. In a matter of a few days, he would finish this. But, as he sat thinking in the barren cavern, his thoughts began to drift towards his regrets. He let out a raspy, almost silent laugh. This always happened. Ever since he was a young teenager, staring at the cold metallic ceiling of ShinRa labs, he had regretted most of his actions...

Or, more precisely, actions he had never taken. He had wanted to hurt the scientists that had endlessly tested, prodded and cut him, but he was always too weak. Too pathetic. Too...unlovable?

He had regretted his first kill too. It had made him feel inhuman...but ironically, that was much closer to the truth than his younger self would've liked to have admitted. He had regretted becoming desensitized to killing, doing it without a second thought. His most recent regret was not finding anyone. To share his life with...maybe if he had given up his desperation to prove to those scientists that he was real, he would have just been an ordinary S.O.L.D.I.E.R. He would have settled down, and had a wife? Or was that just another deluded dream...

Of course, he had Mother. The only person to love him. Truly. She didn't pretend just so he could help her. And he figured, she was the only person who had the ability to love him. And he was the only person who ever loved her. They truly were Mother and Son.

Sephiroth?

Yes Mother?

The pests have reached the continent. Be prepared, my son.

Of course, Mother.

And don't forget; I love you.

He smiled. With strengthened resolve, he cast his regrets aside and got ready to set the world ablaze. For Mother. And to destroy what remained of his regrets.

This was going to be Fun.
