The Key Of Things

Summary: Sam sees the key to Dean's happiness slip away and comes to the rescue. Warning: some cursing, other than that not as serious as it sounds.

Disclaimer: Guess what? Wow! You guessed, you're right I don't own them... nothing of it is mine...how did you know? (Tell me, who can spot the sarcasm in that one?:)

Author's note: My first language is not English, in fact it is Dutch. So due to that slight disadvantage I might be prone to mistakes. Please if you find any, correct me because I'm studying to teach all those bratty Dutch teenagers all about the beauty of the English language and I'd rather do it right. Thanks in advance!

'anything written like this, is what Sam is thinking at that moment.'

"Fuck!" Sam clasped a hand over his mouth cursing himself for alerting the thing to his presence, but Sam couldn't help it. Hiding himself in the shadows Sam searched the ground of the hot, humid, hellish cave.

'Where were they?'

A soft growl made him retreat deeper into the shadows, it was close, it was hunting him, but right now Sam didn't care.

'Where the hell were they?'

Moving around the rocks he was hiding behind Sam glanced at Dean. He wasn't moving.

'Great sleeping on the job.'

But really Sam was worried, and thankful that the creature was hunting him now, and not trying to eat Dean.

'He'd be chewy anyway'

Sam saw it too late, the creature roared and swung at him with monstrous claws. Sam felt them rip through his shirt and tear at the flesh underneath it. Sam's survival instincts kicked in and he ran.

"Shit, shit, shit!" He cursed as he ran. The pain in his side spread to his entire body.

'Oh no...'

He heard them, before he saw them, underneath his feet, slipping away. He couldn't stop running now, the creature was on his heels. Sam pulled the gun out of the waistband of his jeans, thanking whomever was listening that he had thought of loading it with a silver bullet.

'three, two, one!'

Sam dove for the ground, twisting himself halfway through so he landed with a thud on his back and shot. It rung out loud and echoed harshly through the cave. Sam saw the creature falling, falling towards him. Quickly Sam rolled out of the way, he felt the steam and stopped rolling just before he hit the boiling water of the underground lake. His elbow touched something, it slid towards the water. A flash of silver.

'No, please no!'

There was a splash, not even a splash more of a soft slosh as it disappeared beneath the water surface. Without thinking Sam plunged his hand into the water after them. He screamed.

'Bad idea, bad idea!'

Sam's fingers closed around something small and he quickly pulled his hand back. He breathed a sigh of relief and rolled onto his back clutching his hand to his chest.

'Thank God or... whatever.'

There was a groan, and some shuffling. "Sammy? Sammy?"

"It's Sam." Sam didn't feel like getting up just yet.

"Sammy what are you doing on the floor?"

'Man that guy could be annoying.'

"Just catching some rest." Sam replied sarcastically as he pushed himself up with his good hand.

"Lazy bones." Dean said as he gingerly touched the wound on the side of his head. Finally he seemed to note the state Sam was in. "What happened to you?"

Sam tossed them to him. "You lost the keys to your car."

"Ah there they are." Dean pocketed the keys and started walking out of the cave, Sam watched him go.

'No way!'

"You coming Sammy?"
