Summary: Ed loves the Colonel. He gets over it. Fast.
Declarations of Love
"Hey, Colonel Bastard, did you hear me? I said I love you!" Ed said through clenched teeth, his fist planted on said Colonel Bastard's desk.
"Hmm, that's great, Ed. I love you too," Colonel Mustang said without looking up. Like the Fullmetal Alchemist in search of the Philosopher's stone, the Colonel was on a mission to finish all his paperwork that day. Not even Ed's declaration of love could shatter his focus.
Ed's heartbeat staggered then sped up, and his golden eyes widened in spite of the distracted tone littering Mustang's every word.
"Y-you do?" Ed stuttered.
"Yes, of course," Mustang said, briefly glancing up to give Ed a 'what the hell is wrong with you today?' look.
Clearing his throat, Ed said, "Well, g-great. Then, maybe we can-"
A brief knock sounded, followed by Lieutenant Hawkeye stepping into the office with more paperwork for the Colonel.
"Lieutenant, Fullmetal just told me he loved me. I told him I loved him back," the Colonel said. Ignoring Ed's squeak of embarrassment he continued, "And, despite the fact that you always bring me an abhorrent amount of paperwork, I love you too."
"Thank you, sir. Despite the fact I feel more like your babysitter instead of your loyal, capable and underpaid subordinate, I love you as well," she said setting the paperwork on his desk.
Nodding as if it were normal for a commanding officer to tell his subordinates he loved them, Mustang added, "Please pass my sentiments on to the other men."
On her exit, Hawkeye did so to which an enthusiastic chorus of "I love you's" returned.
"See, Fullmetal, we all love each other. Now, if we're done sharing our feelings, I've got work to do," The Colonel said scribbling his signature hurriedly on the document in front of him before moving on to the next.
"I—you—what just—UGH!" Ed's brain tried to make sense of the situation, and when it failed, he did what came naturally.
"Go to hell, Mustang!"
A/N: A small, similar moment in an episode of Angel inspired this one-shot. Hope it was enjoyable to read. Reviews are always welcome! :)
