#11 Death Note

Hated Because of Great Qualities – Blonde Redhead

Secret, so sorry, but I forgot
Secret, secret, we are bound to forget
I was worried I might be rude to you
So worried that I was
It's a lie to serve the truth
And I'm still guilty

Oh, I missed
So be it

Everywhere, everything you ever touch
Cutting it won't do it
There's nothing to it
You were sorry that I was alone
So sorry you ran away
Putting it on me, but you already knew it

Oh, it was never meant to be
So be it

I can't understand this at all
I can't pronounce this at all
These are different matters
These are uncertain feelings
These should never be discussed
So keep it to yourself

Oh, I missed
So be it

Everywhere, everything you ever touch
Cutting it won't do it
There's nothing to it
You were sorry that I was alone
So sorry you ran away
Putting it on my, but you already knew it

Oh it was never meant to be
So be it

I can't understand this at all
I can't pronounce this at all
These are different matters
These are uncertain feelings
These should never be discussed
So keep them to yourself

Sunlight, orange and littered with dust motes, cut through the cracked windows on the tower block opposite and landed at Matt's feet. Ash drifted down to meet it.

"Get back in here and work!"

Matt sucked on his cigarette, narrowed his eyes, did not move or answer. He waited until Mello's boots stamping down the hallway were loud enough that he knew he was close and clicked open the door so that he could storm through unabated.

"What is it?" he growled, half angry, half playful, unsure of where he stood now. Mello glared at him for a moment, and then shut his eyes in what Matt decided after a moment was a strange and uncharacteristic effort to calm himself down. He smiled, tucked his hand behind Mello's head and kissed him, gently and slowly, fingers tugging at blonde hair. Mello was unbalanced for a second, but kissed back anyway. Matt felt Mello's fingers slide down his arm, pull the cigarette from between his fingers and throw it away.

"Come and work, lazy bastard, I can't do this all on my own."

It was almost an admission, almost, but Mello was already whirling away from him and back into their apartment. Matt took a moment to settle his heartbeat before following. It was the stupidest thing, to kiss Mello and follow his orders and fly with him when he flung himself up onto the wind of competition and pursuit, but Matt could never tear himself away.
