Sirius had just finished detention with Filch and couldn't wait to get back to the dorms and sleep. But as he turned down the corridor he saw a girl sitting on the edge of a window. What the bloody hell she doing? It's the seventh floor! Sirius thought frantically.

Not wanting to frighten her he slowly walked up to her and made sure she could see him out of the corner of her eye before speaking, so he didn't scare her and make her fall to her impending death.

"Um…what are you doing?" He knew it wasn't the most brilliant thing to ask but what else was he supposed to do?

She didn't move though, she didn't even look up. "Evangeline isn't it? I think we have Charms together." He waited for her to reply; so long he was about to leave to get Madam Promfey, when she whispered, "Potions".

"I'm sorry?" Now Sirius was thoroughly confused.

"We're in Potions together not Charms." Was her only reply.

"Right. So can I ask what you're doing sitting on a window on the seventh floor?" Again there was a long eerie silence, but for the first time she actually made eye contact with Sirius. She had big, beautiful caramel eyes, but they were filled with endless sorrow, making him cringe.

Looking down again she emotionlessly answered, "You-Know-Who killed my entire family. My little sister, my Mum, my Da, even my aunts and uncles, they're all gone. Everyone. I have no one left…." Sirius just sat there; there were no words that would console her, none that were believable anyways. For a long time they just sat there in shock and sadness.

Finally Sirius pulled himself together enough to choke out, "well you shouldn't take your life…you have to get down from that window, you just can't…" he didn't know what more to say but that she couldn't jump. She turned to look at him once more, staring at him, searching for something, anything to see if she really should get down. Finally she turned her head to gaze at the abyss below her. Sirius thought she might jump, but then she shifted and shakily fell back into the castle.

Catching her, Sirius then walked her to the Hufflepuff common room. Where all her friends swarmed her, with hugs and consoling coos, but she just remained stiff and emotionless. Before he left though he turned to look back and saw her doing the same, smiling weakly before turning back around and numbly walking to Gryffindor tower.

All his mates were asleep, when he walked into his dorm. Collapsing onto his bed Sirius began to sob. He sobbed all night, not entirely sure why, but he vowed that night he would do everything in his power to bring the Dark Lord down, if not for Evangeline, but all those other innocent people who had suffered because of him.
