Chapter one: Witchcraft
"Please help me! I don't know what to do! Pleaseā¦." She yelled for the hundredth time, her voice lost, almost empty with sorrow, with grief.
"Deal with it" he responded, smiling at her, his eyes fierce.
"Please" she begged again, this time on her knees, her hands reaching for the edge of his pants, gripping onto his legs as if her life depended on it. He shrugged her away and moved out of her reach. A small cry escaped her as she heard their voices coming near her, the earth beneath her knees almost trembling with her fear.
"Please, you're their lord, if you ask them to leave me alone, they will!" she whispered, her green eyes searching his, her black hair wild.
"And why would I do that?" he laughed, his eyes going to the huge door as it sprang open, revealing angry men with torches in their hands.
"-Kill the witch!" they screamed, their hands already on her, dragging her away from him, her arm still outstretched towards him, tears begging him to have pity. Their screams could be heard now from a distance as he watched from the window of his castle as the crowd slowly disappeared.
Another beautiful woman torched to death. Witchcraft. That he did not believe in but he could not argue with the villagers. No he could not. He took a deep breath. He didn't want her to die; she was too young, too gifted.
Her screams of pain echoed in the night as he sat on his bed. He had to show no pity, no pity at all. And if he would then he would feel none.
"They killed her didn't they?" a soft feminine voice came from the door, one of the many females who resided in his castle. He nodded, his eyes closing, letting himself fall onto the confortable mattress. "Didn't they my Lord?"
"She's a priestess, a witch. Our laws say that they have to be burned."
"Did you defend her?"
Silence reigned before he answered.
"Don't bother your head with all these matters. Go back to the rest."
But even when she left, he knew that he didn't defend that woman. He knew that one day he would pay for his contribution in the crimes.
"At least I sent her small daughter to somewhere safe." He mumbled to himself.
