Terra Nova
Waving goodbye knowing you wouldn't come back
Taking one more look in the mirror before your time came
You adjusted your captain's hat with dignity and courage
They gave their souls to go with you into the unknown
You thought you would be first to reach
Only to be stopped midway by another symbol of greed.
When you arrived there wasn't as much as the wind howling
Tears in the earth sucked the energy right out of you.
Quit blaming your efforts on yourself,
What would your country think of you as?
One who gave up on himself?
Or someone who dedicated his name to the books of immortality
Either way their name will be remembered.
Arriving on the earth's bitter surface you suffer bitterly
The first night was the hardest.
Adapting to the claws of a dark angel
You only wrote in your book the truth and nothing less.
The first few words read…this is an awful place.
And the earth will punish you if you stay here any longer.
Dying become more distant as the days passed.
The team began to go in different paths.
Some wandered out into the winds of death never to be seen again.
While you get you sanity and stayed inland until your strength was at bay.
You don't know why you should hope
To see the light of heaven pour in
And as the clock almost expires you look off into the distance
Only to be surprised nonetheless by another member giving his life;
Before they stop reading this is sure to give your best
For some only have gone half the distance
Only to give death another reason to come into your home
The snow began to build up around your tent
This is their last page of notes
Take it and turn it into a legacy
…You will remember their name…
