As his kids were heading towards the station, he felt that he should be saying something meaningful and comforting after the tragedy they experienced at the end of last school year. This was his final chance to communicate some profound feeling to make their pain in their hearts null, and he couldn't think of those god-dam miracle words he wanted to convey. All he could say was "You know I love you, have a nice year." As his moody boys grumbled out their "I love you too dad", Lily sprinted up to him and hugged him with tears rolling down her face. "Please be safe by the time we're home." Harry replied with his best imitation of a grin "Nothing will take me away from you guys." Right after he said that they walked away and he realized he was alone.
Ginny died exactly four months ago, she was said to of had a heart attack, although she looked fit to him. She died in the Grimauld Place without anyone ever seeing the death. The first to discover the body was Kreacher, who tried to heal her with simple healing magic thinking she was unconscious. As things were looking worse, he felt her pulse and saw that she had passed on. Immediately he called Harry from his office and he came over with an ambulance. After hearing Kreacher's account of the story he did not think he was lying about his involvement. The only thing he doubted was that the death was caused by natural causes.
All the investigators were not persuaded of his thoughts on the matter. All they said was "You've been in this bloody business to long", and muttering together about possible PTSD. At least he was prepared for that one, being accused as a psychopath for almost all his fifth year of Hogwarts. He thought of his kids. It was so close to the end of school that he knew if he told them then that they would not concentrated in their finals {including James's OWL's} he decided to tell them when they went home. In his head he knew that was not the real reason, this talk would probably the most painful in his entire life and he just wanted to keep on postponing it and actually be able to tell them without breaking into tears himself.
When they actually did go home it did not go as well as he hoped. James started cursing him for not telling them sooner and Albus and Lily just went ghostly pale and could not understand another word after he said is dead. Dinner that night was prepared wonderfully by Kreacher celebrating their return to homes and in his anticipation of their reactions to the news, he felt the need to make a mouth-watering dinner to lift the mood of the table. Needless to say it did not work, everyone was silent the entire time beside Harry who was trying to spark conversations about their school year to no avail.
Soon the Funeral came about and he drove his kids to the cemetery to have one final look at their mother. All the relatives were mourning the loss of a person no one could dislike and all loved. For Harry this was the moment he truly realized it was up to him to raise the kids and take even more responsibility in their lives than he already was demonstrating. No more Friday beer with Ron {At least until the summer ended}, No more business trips for the ministry, and a whole lot more interaction with his kids.
It was now up to him.
