This is a collection of short one-shots about the airbender kids and their lives. Each chapter is not really related, but still exist in the same universe.

Magic Tricks

"This is the main dining hall, where the acolytes who live on the island eat. Tenzin's family has a dining room, too, but there's too many of us to all eat in there, so we'll take meals in here. And that pretty much wraps up the tour," Korra looked at the three newest guests expectantly. "Any questions?"

"Yeah, was it really necessary to show us every bathroom on the island?" Bolin teased. Korra shoved him playfully and rolled her eyes.

"Really, though, thanks for letting us stay, Korra," Mako said sincerely, and a flash of yellow caught his eye. He tried to get a better look, but couldn't quite see what it was.

Korra followed his gaze and smiled wryly. "They've been following us the entire time. I'm amazed Ikki's been able to keep quiet for so long." She told them in a hushed voice, then called loudly, "Ikki, Jinora, we see you! Come out here and meet everyone."

The two airbending girls shyly came around the corner to stand on either side of Korra. "This is Jinora," she placed a hand on the taller girl's shoulder. "And this one is Ikki," she affectionately tugged one of the younger girl's ponytail. "Ikki, Jinora, you've seen Mako before, and this is his brother Bolin, and Asami Sato."

They each waved or smiled as they were introduced, and the young girls giggled. FInally Ikki couldn't keep it in any longer, and the deluge of questions began:

"How did you get to be so tall? Are you taller than my daddy? He's really tall, too! Do you have to duck under doors like he does? Korra calls you Mr. Hat Trick. Is that because you can do magic tricks? Can you show me some? I love tricks. Are you going to be training here, too? Can I come watch? Korra says you're a really great firebender. Are you two gonna spar? Do you ever burn yourself? Is that why you're wearing gloves with no fingers?"

Korra choked back a strangled-sounding laugh, and placed a hand on top of Ikki's head. "I think that's enough for now, Ikki. You don't want to scare him off."

Ikki frowned, but stopped.

Mako stooped down in front of her, a rush of affection already in his heart for the precocious girl. "How about I answer your questions one at time, okay? Everytime you see me, you can ask a new one."

Ikki lit up, head bobbing in excitement.

"Which one should I answer first?"

"Can you do magic tricks?"

Mako chuckled, "I think I might know one." Bolin had gone through a magic phase after they'd seen some street performers in front of the station that could unlink metal chains with just a tug or make a baby turtleduck disappear.

Mako shifted slightly, then stared intently at the little girl. "Did you remember to clean behind your ears today?"

"What?" She scrunched her nose at him, but he reached back, and pulled a single coin from behind her ear, presenting it with a flourish.

"You might want to be more careful. Can't have those yuans disappearing like that," he winked at her and she squealed with glee, clutching the coin in both hands.

"Alright, I think you've bothered them enough for one day," Korra said, thoroughly impressed with Mako's trick. "I'm pretty sure you're supposed to be in lessons right now, anyway."

The girls said goodbye and ran off, laughing and chatting animatedly.

"Nice trick, hotshot," Korra said. "I'm pretty sure you just gained another fan."

Mako just grinned at her and shrugged. Ikki reminded him of something, something he hadn't realized he'd missed. And he was looking forward to having that something back in his life again.
