A/N: My first Torchwood fic, so please be nice.

Disclaimer: I don't own Torchwood or the characters, I'm just borrowing them 'coz I can!

It was an average day at Torchwood, with nothing too exciting happening. Gwen was catching up on some filing and paperwork when suddenly Jack waltzed in, grinning broadly.

"What are you so happy about?" she asked with a smile. She loved it when he grinned as it made him look even more handsome.

"We're going to New York for a special assignment," he announced happily.

"New York?" Owen repeated, not even trying to hide his distaste. "It's all smoke and fumes and druggies over there, isn't it?"

Before anyone else could speak, music began to play out of nowhere. Jack's grin grew even wider as the rest of the team stared around for the source of music. And then Jack began to sing.

"I happen to like New York," he crooned. "I happen to like this town. I like the city air; I like to drink of it. The more I know New York the more I think of it."

"Jack," Toshiko started. "What's going on?"

Jack continued singing, as though he hadn't even heard her speak.

"I like the sight and the sound and even the stink of it. I happen to like New York."

"Jack!" Gwen giggled in amusement and Ianto silently stepped into the room, watching quietly with one eyebrow raised.

"I like to go to Battery Park and watch those liners booming in. I often ask myself, why should it be that they come so far across the sea. I suppose it's because they all agree with me. They happen to like New York."

"Excuse me," Ianto said politely, but still Jack took no notice and kept singing.

"Last Sunday afternoon I took a trip to Hackensack, but after I gave Hackensack the once over, I took the next train back. I happen to like New York. I happen to love this burg."

The Torchwood team cracked up in hysterical laughter, but Jack didn't seem to notice. He was really getting into the song, his voice booming around the hub.

"And when I have to give the world a last farewell, and the undertaker starts to ring my funeral bell, I don't want to go to heaven, don't want to go to hell. I happen to like New York."

Jack paused for effect before singing the last line with every essence of Broadway, dragging out the words with great vibrato. "I happen to liiike New Yoooork!"

Jack bowed, grinning madly as the team clapped and whooped, cheering excitedly. When at last they all calmed down Jack leaned against a wall and surveyed his team.

"So, are we ready for New York?" he asked with a smile.

The chorus from his team was loud and enthusiastic, all shouting the one word. "Yes!"

Fin.
