"Hey, what did you think about that test in Coach Williams class?" Clare asked Ali as she opened her locker.

"Super easy! I think I aced it!" Ali replied, beaming with glee.

"Yeah. Same here," Clare took her science book out.

"So, you wanna be partners for the science project?" As soon as Ali asked, Clare shut her locker, put her head down, and blushed a deep red.

"Actually, Eli asked me to be his partner. Sorry," She whispered as if she was embarrassed. Even though they had broken up, she still had feelings for him, and she knew he still liked her.

"No! Shut up!" Ali gasped in shock. "That's like the fifth time he's asked you to do something with him this month!"

"Um, yeah. We're actually going to start the project this afternoon," She whispered again and clutched her books closer to her chest as they walked to science together.

"Aww! Well, I bet you'll have lots of fun," Ali winked, like she knew something Clare didn't.

They walked throught the doorway of the classroom as the bell rang and sat down in their desks. The teacher began speaking, but all Clare could think about was the afternoon to come.

That afternoon, Clare and her ex Eli were at his house, talking about ideas for the science project.

"It has to be a rollercoaster with a loop or hill that looks like a shape," Eli spoke in his soft voice that made Clare's insides smile.

"Right. So, we could do a group of hills that look like a heart and call it-," She started to say the name, but Eli seemed to know what she was thinking.

"The Ups and Downs of Love?" He looked at her knowingly, which made the blood rush back to her cheeks.

She nodded, and they started the design for it, which they had to have to turn in. Clare kept trying to draw the heart shape, but couldn't get it right.

"Gah. This heart does not wanna be perfect!" Clare threw her hands up in frustration.

"Here. Let me help," He put his hand over hers and drew a perfect heart.

Their eyes met, and he started leaning in slowly. She grabbed his face gently.

"Oh, just kiss me already!" She pulled his face into hers for a passionate kiss.

Where she got the confidence to do that, nobody knew. But it doesn't matter.
