I looked around the mountain. The beautiful green trees stood tall and proud, mountain's and fields stretched as far as the eye could see; a single Mockingjay flew above my gently singing a tune that I recognized:

Are you, are

Coming to tree

Where they strung up a man they said murdered three

Strange things did happen here

No stranger would it be

If we met up at midnight in the hanging tree

I sang it to myself in my head; I knew where this Mockingjay had heard this tune. Prim. She was singing the song that she had enjoyed singing so many times with Katniss and her father.

Today was going to be a hard day for everyone – especially little Prim and her frail mother.

Right now as I sat looking over beautiful meadows the girl I love is stood on a podium in an arena full of sadness, she is about to hear a starting gong which is her single to fight to death for her survival.

The whole of District 12 is probably stood in the square right now, waiting for the Dreaded Hunger Games to begin. Waiting to watch someone pretty much everyone in 12 knows about to fight and run for her survival.

Katniss…

One mention of her name makes me think how deep my love is for her, how the last time I might ever see her will be over a television; even if she returns, after Peeta's announcement on the interviews I think that when she returns home she might never love me again.

I push this thought to the back of my mind and before I realize it, I am up and running through the woods – only stopping briefly to check my snares. Nothing. Even the animals miss Katniss.

When I reach the square it's crowded but silent, I have to push and shove my way through the crowd of sad people to try and find Prim and her mother.

As I try to find the Everdeen's I see some familiar, usually happy faces turned sad: Greasy Sae, Darius, Madge and Posy.

Posy?

I stop and tap her on the shoulder.

"Posy," I whisper "Why are you on you own?"

"Gale?" she turned around and hugged me "I can't find mummy! I left a bit after she did and I can't find her"" she whimpered.

"It's ok, I'm here now." I reassured her "Come with me." I picked her up and she wrapped her little arms around my neck and buried her face in my shoulder. I felt the hot tears run down my neck so I held onto her tighter.

I looked around for someone who might know where Prim is. Everyone seemed to look like they were about to burst out crying, so I settled for Darius even though I don't like him much.

"Darius," I said quietly; he looked away from the screen which was currently showing Katniss extremely de-hydrated, I couldn't watch.

"What's up Gale?" he asked.

"You haven't seen Prim or Mrs Everdeen anywhere have you?"

"Urm, oh yeah I have. As soon as the starting gong sounded Prim ran off and her mother went after her. I think they went back to their house."

"Thanks Darius." I said and ran off as quickly as I could with a five year old clutching onto me.

I put Posy down and gently knocked on the door. I waited a couple of seconds before Prim dived out the house and wrapped her arm around me; her mother followed slowly, she looked ill from what was probably lack of sleep.

"Gale, tell me she's going to be alright." I heard Prim say. I looked down at her little face; for a moment I saw Katniss when she was this age, but then I saw a young girl with raw read eyes and tousled blonde hair.

I hugged her back and felt tears slowly fall down my face. I did not want to tell Prim a lie but I also didn't want to tell her that Katniss wasn't going to live. So I played it safe and said,

"I'm sure she will."
